The 90s classics like Sold out Yes the boy meets the world are among the TV shows that have had successful sequels in recent years, and those projects don’t seem to slow down anytime soon. In fact, another beloved show from this decade is apparently making a comeback to the small screen. It is reported that a Ally McBeal The sequel series is reportedly in the works, but will undergo some big changes.
ABC is developing the show, according to Termand the exchange also reports that there will be an interesting twist in the next chapter of this franchise. Apparently the show will follow a young black woman just out of law school as she gets her first job in a law firm. And the main character would be the daughter of Ally McBeal’s district attorney’s friend and roommate, Renee Raddick. As fans will remember, Lisa Nicole Carson played Renee in the original series.
The project will be written and produced by producer Karin Gist, who recently worked as an EP our kind of people Yes miguel. Gist reportedly managed to impress Alphabet network leaders with his new version of the world created by David E. Kelley decades ago. Additionally, the ongoing series would be part of ABC’s effort to maintain its track record in creating female-driven dramas.
It wouldn’t be the first awakening or renewal the network has seen in recent years. The most famous network has rosanna sequel series The Conners (which will launch its fifth season as part of ABC’s Fall 2022 schedule). society too tried to bring back Los Angeles laweven though the show was eventually abandoned.
Despite the changes, there is a chance that fans will see OG lead Calista Flockhart return to her role as titular attorney. Commerce reports that Flockhart has been contacted to return for the Ally McBeal spin-off, which would be his first television role since returning as Cat Grant in super girl The series finale. His involvement would be suspended until the script is completed, but, if he returns, he could also act as an EP. It’s unclear if more cast members will return (though I doubt Season 4 star and future Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. will return).
One person who definitely won’t be involved behind the scenes is David E. Kelley. It is said that with a black woman in mind, Kelley felt that Karin Gist had to tell such a story. Although he wasn’t involved in the follow-up, Kelley would give his blessing to the project.
Fox’s legal drama ran for five seasons from 1997 to 2002 and followed the neurotic protagonist as he struggled to cope with life’s many tribulations. At the same time, he practiced as a lawyer in the same law firm as his ex-boyfriend and his wife. In addition to the main character, the series has focused on the lives of his friends and henchmen, with court trials serving as plot elements. Other notable cast members included Courtney Thorne-Smith, Greg Germann, Jane Krakowski, Lucy Liu, and Portia de Rossi. The series has won numerous Emmys among a host of other major accolades and has remained popular across the web, thanks in large part to the memes it generated.
The premise of this Ally McBeal The sequel is intriguing to say the least and hopefully if it takes off it will retain the essence of its predecessor by implementing the big creative changes.
