20th Century Studios chose actor Owen Teague, who played thug Patrick Hockstetter in “It: The Thing”, as the new star in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise. The investigation was carried out exclusively by the American site Deadline and confirmed by the actor himself on his Instagram.

“I am thrilled beyond belief. Can’t wait to get started,” he wrote alongside the press.

Owen Teague is the first confirmed name in the cast of the production, which was played by director Wes Ball (of the “Maze Runner” series) for at least two years, along with the hired visual effects team. Despite this, little is known about the plot of the new film.

According to Deadline, Ball delivered the final script in June, written by Josh Friedman (“Terminator: Dark Fate”), and immediately wowed executives. The casting process would begin shortly after.

Auditions for the lead role continue, but Teague has already been named the most important monkey in history after impressing executives during her audition.

The excitement is such that the studio hopes to begin filming before the end of the year, according to Deadline.

Based on the sci-fi novel of the same name by Pierre Boulle, the first “Planet of the Apes” was released in theaters in 1968. Thanks to its success at the box office, the film has generated four sequels, two series (one of which is animated), comics and a reboot directed by Tim Burton in 2001, which failed at the box office. The success resumed only with “Planet of the Apes: Inception”, which gave birth to the trilogy completed by “Planet of the Apes: Confrontation” and “Planet of the Apes: War”, in which Andy Serkis gave birth to Caesar , the first speaking monkey Earth.

The new film in the series does not yet have a date to be released in theaters.
