Frank Dubosky: Rumba la vie, his new gentle and danceable comedy, comes to cinemas

After all the upside, discover the new comedy written and directed by Frank Dubosky, Rumba la vie. He plays the main role there with Luna Espinosa, who can be seen notably in the series Les Bracelets rouges on TF1. Our video interview.

Fifty-something Tony, a retired school bus driver, has been living alone since leaving his wife and children twenty years ago. Shaken by a heart attack, she finds the courage to confront her past and incognito enroll in a dance class run by the daughter she never knew to (re)capture and give her life meaning.

This is the pitch for Rumba la vie, a new feature film written and directed Frank Dubosky, after 4 years, everyone got up. As in the previous feature film, there is a mix of tenderness and humor, as explained in our interview above, this time with a background of ballroom dancing.

I like the elegance and the fact that it is still danced in couples. I am inspired by the color and mood found there and the reaction it evokes: the desire to laugh and then love.and add:First of all, I didn’t want Rumba la vie to be a dance film, a music video or even a demonstration (…) The challenge was to use the space for more interest in the characters, behind the scenes, in the characters. The passion that it can cause, and especially the father-son relationship that had to be played out there.”

To play the main female role, Franck Dubosk called Luna Espinosa, a young actress who can be seen in particular in the series Les Bracelets rouges. He started going on set at the age of 16. After quite intense and physical roles (La loi de Pauline, Beyond Appearances, Dunk…), no less than 3 feature films for the young actor: he was on the poster of Dominique Lienhardt’s Des feus dans la nuit at the beginning of August. And we will soon be able to see him in Canailles by Christoph Offenstein (in September). Rumba la vie is her first lead role in a film.

Out of competition at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Festival, Rumba la vie had its release delayed due to the Omicron option. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on January 19th, the film will hit theaters this Wednesday, August 24th.
