‘I want to do another Top Gun’: How Tom Cruise started Maverick

In an interview on the video release of “Top Gun: Maverick,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer discusses the circumstances that led Tom Cruise to accept the film.

Who would have thought that Top Gun: Maverick would be so high at the 2022 box office, from which it has taken the top spot worldwide with $1.4 billion to date (and more than six million viewers in France)? Who would have thought that a sequel to the movie that made Tom Cruise a star would ever see the light of day, as the subject has been brought up regularly without anything concrete?

in the given interview CinemaBlend On the day of the video release of Joseph Kosinski’s film Across the Atlantic, Jerry Bruckheimer recalled the moment when everything changed: “Tom felt that Maverick was an iconic character in his filmography and that if there was a sequel, he would have to succeed in firing another bullet.”– says the producer.

“Joseph Kosinski then came up with an idea that we were toying with, but he managed to flesh it out. We went to Paris, where Tom was filming Mission: Impossible, and Joe sat down with him with a notebook and said, ‘This is the story I want to tell and what it’s going to be.’

I want everyone on these planes, I want you to feel it

“Tom looked at him and said, ‘Look Joe, if we’re going to do it, we’re really going to do it.’ I want everybody on these planes, I want people to feel that.” To which Joe replied, “That’s the only way I want to make a movie.” Tom then picked up the phone and called the head of the studio at the time and said, “I want to make another Top Gun.” They were clearly delighted.”

The journey was just beginning. Because Tom Cruise and his young partners had to undergo intensive training in order to be able to film on board airplanes in flight, which made filming and, therefore, exit.

Which was then postponed many times due to the impact of Covid on cinemas. But the film arrives in theaters worldwide in May 2022 after going through Cannes, and to say the bet is successful is an understatement.
