Studio Laika, known for supernatural themed stop-motion animations, has released the first official image of its upcoming animation, titled “Wildwood”. The news was revealed on the studio’s social media, which also announced the big team of voice actors for the film.
Notable names include Carey Mulligan (“The Dig”), Mahershala Ali (“Green Book: The Guide”), Peyton Elizabeth Lee (“Andi Mack”), Jacob Tremblay (“Jack’s Room”), Awkwafina (“Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings “), Angela Bassett (” Black Panther “), Jake Johnson (” New Girl “), Charlie Day (” It’s always sunny in Philadelphia “), Amandla Stenberg (” The Hate “) You Sow “), Jemaine Clement (” What We Do in the Shadows “), Tom Waits (” The Old Man and the Gun “) and Richard E. Grant (” Logan “).
Written by Chris Butler (“ParaNorman”), based on Carson Ellis’ book, “Wildwood” is described as a story of love, loss, sacrifice and secrets, and the magic you can find in your home if you’re willing to search there.
The plot will follow Prue McKeel, a young woman who is about to enter an enchanted world. Her younger brother Mac has been taken deep into the forest by a raven killer and she ventures into the forest to retrieve him. Although she Prue thinks she is too old for fantasies, she soon finds herself drawn into a fairy tale filled with strange talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures with dark intentions.
The film is directed by Travis Knight, responsible for one of the studio’s best releases, “Kubo and the Two Strings” (2016). “Working with these exceptional actors has been an enriching experience,” Knight said in an official statement. “The committed performances of him elevate ‘Wildwood’ and are a gift to Laika’s animators. I am amazed at all of them.”
“Wildwood” doesn’t have a release date yet.
