Lord of the Rings: Did the Rings of Power Appear in Peter Jackson’s Movies?

As The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power begins September 2 on Prime Video, retracing the origins of these rings, from their creation to their power. To do this, AlloCiné spoke to Romain Bays, manager of the LeStream channel on Twitch and founder of the Le Grand Pop site, a Middle Earth specialist:

When we talk about a ring of power in Tolkien’s world, we think of any object endowed with magic. On the other hand, “Rings of Power” refers to the twenty great rings.

“We know their number”he continues. It is even a prophecy, the original text of The Lord of the Rings: This is what is written on one of the rings: “Three for Elves, nine for Men, seven for Dwarves, and one for Lord of the Rings. In this case, Sauron (…).

“He’s an elf named Celebrimbor, who originally forged most of the rings. He’s assisted by a mysterious character named Anatari, who introduces himself as the ‘Lord of the Gifts.'” No spoilers, it’s Sauron in disguise who’s going to explain how to forge this great power Rings to trap, because behind, it will form a ring that dominates them… except three, the three rings of the elves (. …)”

“Seeing how the dwarven sciences mix with this to create the rings of power that the hidden Sauron rules in the shadows is what we want to hear and see and who will give all of their aura to the lord rings.”

Rings of elves, humans, and dwarves slow down the effects of time. Except Sauron put the vice inside: All of these rings are subordinate to the one ring that appears in The Lord of the Rings. The effect of this vice is corruption. Romain Bays explains:

  • “On the dwarves, who are hard to bribe, it will have no such effect, but will act upon their thirst for gold and their desire to accumulate wealth, and will drive them into a kind of madness by reinforcing the protectionist spirit they naturally possess.
  • “Men who are more easily corrupted will submit completely to Sauron’s will and become the Nazgul, with the Witch-king being the most prominent.”

  • “Three of the Elves are the most interesting because they are the only ones created by Celebrimbor without Sauron’s intervention. They are associated with the three elements: air, water and magical powers of fire, with Gandalf inheriting the Ring of Fire. Galadriel the Ring of Air and Elrond the Ring of Water.”
  • “One ring, as we have seen, makes invisible, but above all corrupts the soul, and especially the forces of good, and dominates the other rings.”

The Rings of Power is slated to run for five seasons, giving the show’s creators plenty of time to explore all of these themes, these powers, and this hidden and destructive corruption. No doubt the atmosphere will be quite dark.

Get ready for September 2 when you can watch the first two episodes exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
