“The Dragon’s House” breaks records and is renewed for a second season

HBO has announced the renewal of “House of the Dragon” for season 2, excited about the epic ratings of the inaugural episode.

If the original information was that the episode had been seen by 10 million viewers on Sunday (8/21) in the United States – a record for a first-time HBO series – now the channel is reporting that number has doubled, climbing to 20 million viewers in the United States with reruns and screenings on HBO Max until Wednesday (24/8).

“We are very proud of what the entire ‘Casa do Dragão’ team has achieved with the first season,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of programming at HBO. “Our phenomenal cast and crew faced an enormous challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as a must. Huge thanks to co-creator and executive producer George RR Martin, co-creator and showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik for guiding us on this journey. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing the epic Targaryen saga to life with Season 2. “

The HBO bosses were optimistic about “House of the Dragon,” but their expectations were surpassed record after record. The series was also HBO’s most watched debut in Latin America and Europe, but those numbers weren’t revealed.

The renewal was not only important for the future of the series, but also for the franchise. HBO has at least seven other “Game of Thrones” spin-offs in development, three, however, are animations. The audience reached by “The House of the Dragon” can be a good omen for the advancement of other productions.

However, the fact that the series was quickly renewed does not guarantee its airing next year. The first season required 10 months of filming and an enormous amount of post-production work on the visual effects, which began in January and is still ongoing. This would exclude the airing of the 2nd season in 2023.

The first spin-off of the “Game of Thrones” phenomenon (2011-2019) follows the Targaryen family, the clan of Daenerys, 200 years before the events of the original series, and focuses on the succession crisis of King Viserys (Paddy Considine , from “Peaky Blinders”), with storylines, battles, dragons and an absolutely epic atmosphere.

The dispute arises because Viserys has chosen his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy, from “Truth Seekers”), as heir to the Iron Throne. Although she is ready to reign from childhood, her rise is not accepted by those who prefer one man to power: the king’s brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”).

The list of notable characters in the conspiracy again highlights Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Hand of the Hand (the second most powerful official position in the Seven Kingdoms), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”) as her daughter Alicent Hightower and Steve Toussaint (“It’s a pity”) as Lord Corlys Velaryon, the sea serpent.

The series was created by screenwriter Ryan J. Condal (creator of the science fiction series “Colony”) and is produced and directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy as director of the famous “Battle of the Bastards” episode of “Game of Thrones “.
