Netflix and the cast of the production have released the first photos of “The Last Blockbuster”, a series that takes place at the last rental shop of the Blockbuster network still operating in the United States on social networks.

The attraction was created by Vanessa Ramos, writer and producer of “Superstore” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, and features actors Randall Park (“WandaVision”), Melissa Fumero (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), JB Smoove (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Tyler Alvarez (“American Vandal”), Madeleine Arthur (“The Magicians”) and Olga Merediz (“In a Neighborhood of New York”).

There is a lot of symbolism – and irony – to the production, given Netflix’s complicated history with Blockbuster. For those who don’t remember, Netflix started out as a mail-order DVD rental shop, which was nearly crushed by the then-dominant Blockbuster. Netflix co-founders Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings even tried to sell the company to Blockbuster for $ 50 million in 2000, but were turned down. The duo then vowed to overtake Blockbuster.

As Netflix has grown into one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, Blockbuster’s latest store, located in Bend, Oregon, has become a curiosity and the subject of a 2020 documentary.

The producers, which include David Caspe and Jackie Clarke (creator and writer of “Happy Endings”), have secured the rights to the Blockbuster brand and will use all the iconography associated with the former video rental network on the attraction.

The first season will have 10 episodes and will premiere on November 3.
