‘My penguin was better’: Colin Farrell’s performance in Batman is not unanimous

Over the years, many actors have portrayed Batman’s infamous Penguin, aka Oswald Cobblepot, but Danny DeVito’s quirky, funny and grotesque version of the Gotham City gangster in Tim Burton’s Batman Challenge (1992) can stand the test of time.

Recently, Colin Farrell tried his hand at the role, giving the legendary villain a darker edge in Matt Reeves’ Batman starring Robert Pattinson.

As Variety reports, Danny DeVito made the confession to Vanity Fair’s lie detector. When asked about this, he had to share his thoughts on Colin Farrell’s performance. He said:

I love Colin. He is a big boy. My penguin was better.

The actor then turned to the polygraph examiner and asked what the machine revealed: “was it true Of course it was. In my opinion.“

The two comedians portrayed the Gotham villain in a different setting, DeVito in Tim Burton’s Keith, Gothic style. – With Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight – And in the dark, moody style of Pharrell Reeves. But those who say the same roles are saying comparisons.

Anecdotally, Variety specifically ranked Danny DeVito’s Penguin as the No. 3 best live-action Batman villain.

Describing her character as a “maelstrom of vice”, she then beat Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman (Batman, The Challenge) to the top spot, followed by Tom Hardy’s Bane (The Dark Knight Rises) and ahead of Heath Ledger’s Joker (The Slow Knight).
