As a source of teenage crushes in the 1980s and 1990s, Danica McKellar left many hearts wondering what happened to her before resurfacing in the 2000s. McKellar revealed how her love of education (especially maths) led her to pursue a college education for a few years.
I went to UCLA, but when I got to school, everywhere I went, people all over campus were yelling, you know, ‘Hey, Winnie!’ [or] “Hey, I loved you in The Wonder Years!” I couldn’t do without it. So I had to understand how valuable it was outside of Winnie Cooper, and the math was hard and I did well. And I like this feeling that my worth, the important things have nothing to do with my looks or the television.
Getting out of the Hollywood rush was perhaps the best decision she could make for herself. Having been on television since she was a preteen, Danica McKellar felt she had no identity other than being Winnie of The wonderful years. Her whole being had been warped into thinking that his worth was none other than her looks and her fascination with onlookers. The Winnie Cooper connection seemed to damage McKellar’s sense of identity as a teenager growing up on television.
For her, math was her way of letting other UCLA students (and viewers) know that she was more than Winnie Cooper. During her time in school, she did just that. Her work in mathematics led Danica McKellar to earn a place in science with the Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem after she co-authored a research paper with UCLA Professor Lincoln Chayes and fellow student Brandy Winn. After college, the star of the GAC family wrote 11 best-selling books focusing on math for teens.
Of course, McKellar did not give up on acting, as he starred in numerous TV shows and films, including Hallmark projects. He caused a sensation last year when he left the network for rival GAC Family with his debut project. the winter palace aired earlier this year. Outside of her work with her new online home, Danica McKellar has had mixed results, from celebrating her Eternal Father’s 72nd birthday to talking about an unexpected death in her family. But it looks like the 47-year-old actress made things happen despite the hardships of her life.
