Please note that the following is the plot for Episode 2 of House of the Dragon, which is available on demand on OCS. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, I suggest you stop reading this article now.
Let’s go to episode 2. And finally the credits! We were seriously worried about not seeing him last week. Slight disappointment in discovering it. While the Game of Thrones theme is still present, this time the House of Dragons titles replace the map of Westeros with some mechanism that activates bloodstains on the Mechan Targaryen family tree. Boys and their toys are not discussed here.
first picture A scene of carnage by the sea with little crabs eating the flesh of nearly dead people… bon appetit.
The men gossip about the king’s council, and Rhaenyra serves these lords. The heir to the throne serves. ᲧᲕᲕᲚᲤᲤᲤᲫᲡᲣᲥᲥᲥობი of the police. We don’t get angry. Lord Velarion angrily enters the council. The men who ate the crab appetizer were his. They sloppily offer him financial compensation… He wants the head of the Crab Giver, a rather small name for someone who doesn’t seem to have much diplomatic practice.
He is told by the phlegm cursor that it is better to avoid going to war, and that negotiations are made against the demon who has gone to take possession of Dragonstone.
Rhaenyra intervenes, insisting that they have dragons and that the matter can be resolved quickly. He is young, but quickly learned pragmatism. A long awkward silence. A young girl spoke at the king’s meeting without being invited. Oh dear! Lèse-majesté! Instead of caring what he thinks, he is sent elsewhere to choose a knight to protect him. Come on, let’s get men talking to each other. (We stay zen, we try)
It passes in a pinch, and we are already drinking the first event that will cause an ulcer.
Does Viserys have server experience on his resume?
In the courtyard of the palace, the knights appear one by one, all candidates for the protection of the heir to the throne. They all look like fun friends. (Not at all). And Renyra wants someone who has battle experience instead of good heritage. It was there that he picked Sir Christon Cole, the very man who had impressed during the tournament, and put the Demon in his place in style.
The King’s Hand is not happy and recommends a more spectacular candidate. Rhaenyra argues in favor of Ser Christon and his experience as a necessary prerequisite for the king and his protection. He holds his hand. And we tell ourselves that any victory, even a small one, over an irritant is good.
In his bedchamber, the king is still tinkering with a medieval version of LEGO and pretending to be modest in front of Alicent when he’s clearly showing off like never before!
He smashes one of his mini stone dragons, which Alicent eagerly takes. Their hands touch as he retrieves the pieces. The moment is awkward. Viserys creates a diversion for Alicent’s question about his daughter. He then asks her not to tell Renira about their secret meetings, which raises the awkwardness by at least ten points.
Alicent and Renira share a moment together. The moment Alicent chooses to protect Viserys’s interests… their complicity feels real and yet belongs in the past.

Lord Corliss and his wife Princess Rhaenys meet the King in the gardens. Corliss takes the opportunity to try to patch things up after a tense exchange earlier in the episode. They agree to make peace, which is where Corliss gets the chance to propose his daughter Laena to Viserys. Always an idea behind it.
In the evening, Viserys and Raenrys meet by candlelight. Except the atmosphere between the two is ice. They try to find some semblance of complicity, but silence counts as double. As he approaches the morning council from which he has been expelled, Viserys immediately interrupts him. He just has to wait and learn.
In his bedroom, Viserys’ finger is wormed. Bon appetit bis. He tells Hand, Otto Hightower, and the Grand Maester about the marriage proposal he received that afternoon. No one is offended that he is offered to marry a 12-year-old child. They prefer to weigh the advantages of such a connection without considering the disadvantages.
The next day, Viserys and Laena walk through the palace gardens together. It barely approaches the shoulder. Clinging to the small body, she talks to the king with a sense of duty and offers to become his wife. Obviously, Viserys is not at all inclined towards a political marriage with a child, and for once we agree with him.
In the distance, Renira witnesses the scene. Laena’s mother, Princess Rhaenys, takes a sickening pleasure in throwing her poisoned poultices at Rhaenyra, refusing a lesson in political pragmatism that we don’t want born into our minds.
Philosophical question:
Alicent and Viserys meet again for a secret meeting where they talk innocently about them. Alicent takes the opportunity to offer a gift to Viserys: a repaired mini stone dragon. A hyper-effective seduction technique on Viserys. The Hand, who is also Alicent’s father, arrives to break the atmosphere for a special council.
A man came to the king to report that a demon had stolen a dragon’s egg. And also that he is going to marry Misaria, a prostitute he frequents. The council interprets the brother’s slinging as an act of war. As if bitten by a bug, Viserys is annoyed by the demon’s behavior and decides to personally go to Dragonstone to take back what was stolen from him.
Hightower, advised and aware of the danger the demon represents, advises his king to go there and offers to go there. The fine strategist lacks the merits of a warrior and is not sure (or persuasive) as he prepares to leave without forgetting to recommend that his daughter go and visit the king in the evening room. …

Demon, an irreverent but elegant boy
On the bridge that leads to Dragonstone, Hightower and the demon face each other, with the army behind him. The two men exchange a few pleasantries and play a game of who is the strongest and strongest… Here the demon pulls out his big toy: his dragon, which threatens Hightower and the King’s ambassadors.
While the demon’s victory seems sealed, Renyra comes to kill the game by landing on the dragon’s back. “Bad!” As we’ve been saying with Daenerys or Arya since Game of Thrones.
Rhaenyra confidently poses in front of her beloved uncle and offers to kill him because he is the heir and wants the throne. He turns his back and wraps the egg in his arms. We warmed up a bit, but the sequence with the dragons always has its effect. He leaves as he came, on the dragon’s back. normal.
Philosophical question:
The atmosphere in Peydragon’s house is quite cool. Mizaria finds it hard to be constantly insulted and relegated to the status of a woman with a bad life. We can understand. He also has trouble being an accessory to a power struggle, making him a particularly vulnerable pawn.
At the palace, Viserys is in no mood to sleep. He worries about his future, his future marriage, and seeks advice from Lord Lionel, who supports his proposal to marry Laena, daughter of the powerful Lord Corliss. Their little ruckus is interrupted by the triumphant return of Rhaenyra of Dragonstone.
The king is not happy and scolds her as if she were 12 years old and that she was a fragile little thing that needed to be protected from all possible dangers. She stands up to her father and proves her cause: remove the egg without bloodshed. They finally share a moment of truth when they recall their pain after Renira’s mother died. However, Viserys tells his daughter that he must find a new wife. What Renira reluctantly hears.
At the new king’s council, Viserys musters up all his courage (well, not so much) to make the big announcement: he’s decided to take a new wife. Corliss stops himself from jumping for joy, seeing that he is already very close to the throne. Renira even encourages her hesitant father to speak. This is where he announces his choice: Alicent Hightower.

Renira breaks the news. Finding out that your dad is going to marry his best friend isn’t the best way to prepare for the idea of having a stepmom.
Corliss has a bad job and leaves the council. Rhaenyra cannot commit such a betrayal. We can’t blame him.
Corliss is talking to someone near the fire. He brags about his lineage by recreating his family tree, but he’s also proud of his will, telling her that everything he’s ever earned has gone to get him by the sweat of his brow. Because he is also the younger brother, in other words, the second. He offers an alliance to his interlocutor, who is none other than a demon.
He shares his worries with the crab. The torture images on this conversation of a disfigured man – a famous crab-eater – wearing an iron mask and looking insane, foreshadow a confrontation that will not be in lace.
