The “The Goldbergs” series will experience a new mourning. Family patriarch Murray Goldberg was killed by the writers after Jeff Garlin was fired from the cast.
The actor was charged with inappropriate behavior and became the target of ABC’s human resources investigation.
In a recent interview, showrunner Alex Barnow told Entertainment Weekly that Murray Goldberg has died off-screen between seasons and will be dead for several months when the series returns to television.
“This is going to be a family that hasn’t reconciled the fact that the father is gone, but has moved on and dealt with it,” he said. “We start with optimism for the baby’s arrival. [de Erica] and looking to the future. It’s an opportunity to create this interesting emotional foundation for the way people behave. “
With over 200 episodes in production, the series is the longest-running live-action comedy series in current US free-to-air television programming.
Despite the historical signs, Garlin’s departure comes after the loss of another important member of his core team: veteran George Segal, who died in March 2021 from complications from heart bypass surgery.
Broadcast in Brazil by Comedy Central, “The Goldbergs” is based on the childhood of creator Adam F. Goldberg in the 1980s and follows the same line of nostalgic period comedies as “The Wonder Years”.
The tenth season will premiere on September 21, with the original cast now consisting of Wendi McLendon-Covey as the mother of the family and the trio Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia as her children.
