Tonight on TV: Part 1 of a saga from which no one has truly recovered

Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Peter Jackson adapts Tolkien.

While you wait for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is scheduled to launch tomorrow on Amazon Prime Video, take a nostalgic dive into the beginnings of this epic saga tonight on TMC…

A long-standing project of Peter Jackson, little known to the general public at the time, his adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s literary work was divided into three parts, produced simultaneously on Dantesque shoots spread over several years. Not satisfied with the trilogy brought to the screen, which is recognized as inappropriate, the New Zealand filmmaker also managed to renew the fantasy genre, until now unloved and completely useless. And this, especially thanks to the mastery of the latest special effects, such as motion capture and massive animation software, which allows the creation of countless digital creatures with their own personalities, which give rise to incredible scenes of battles.

Upon its release in cinemas, the first cinematic part was a huge commercial success ($871 million at the worldwide box office) and received very positive reviews (it currently has an average of 8.8 out of 10 on IMDb and 4.5 out of 5 on AlloCiné). A true gem of the 2000s, The Fellowship of the Ring perfectly sets the stakes of the story and offers a very high spectacle!
