Venice: Festival audience gives a 6-minute standing ovation to Cate Blanchett’s performance in “TAR”

Even before anyone saw Cate Blanchett star in Todd Field’s movie Tar, There was a murmur of awards around his performance. The role, in which Blanchett plays the fictional Lydia Tarr, widely considered one of the greatest living composers/conductors and the first principal conductor of a major German orchestra, was considered unprecedented for the actress to win. Field’s first feature film in 16 years, TAR Follow Blanchett’s character from the height of her creative and professional possibilities to a harrowing examination of the #MeToo accusations. Nina Hoss, Noemi Merlant, Sophie Cowher, Julian Glover, Mark Strong, Alan Corduner and Sylvia Fleet are among the film’s supporting cast.

Blanchett’s phenomenal preparation for the role, in which the actress taught herself German, learned to play the piano and conduct an orchestra, as well as Oscar downsides bolster her chances in the 2023 race. Blanchett has six Oscar nominations so far and won twice: Best Supporting Actress in 2005 for the film. Aviator and best actress award jasmine blue in 2014.

Although Blanchett is currently in the spotlight at the awards show, she has had a strong response from critics and the public.
