Actor Brendan Gleeson (from the “Harry Potter” franchise) has joined the cast of “Joker: Folie à Deux”, the sequel to “Joker”, in an unknown role.

The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster will once again see actor Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. In addition to the couple, Zazie Beetz is also expected to return as the protagonist’s neighbor, Sophie.

Director Todd Phillips is also back behind the camera, which will turn on in December, with the aim of being released in theaters in October 2024, exactly five years after the first film.

Variety magazine reported that, to get Phoenix to play Arthur Fleck once again, Warner offered him a salary of $ 20 million. This equates to half the full budget of the original “Joker”.

The name “Folie à Deux” refers to a French medical term used to define a mental disorder that affects two or more people at the same time.

In addition to this plot clue, Lady Gaga’s presence as Harley Quinn indicates that the story will address the Joker’s treatment and the obsession developed by his psychiatrist, who literally falls madly in love with him.

Another detail is that the production must be presented as a musical.

The First Joker was the highest-grossing adult film of all time (“R” rating in the US), grossing over $ 1 billion worldwide. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar, the film also won the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences trophy for Hildur Guðnadóttir’s score.

Brendan Gleeson is currently in Venice for the world premiere of his new film, “The Banshees of Inisherin”, which reunites him with actor Colin Farrell and director Martin McDonagh, 14 years after “In the Boss’s Eye” (2008).
