The Rings of Power on Prime Video: Recap of the first episode where Galadriel thinks she’s Joan of Arc

The first images of the Rings of Power. Children are having fun in a wheat field with a voice from above. They captured a little girl who made a paper boat. (Hint: pointy ears. They’re elves.) The craft unfolds to enchanting music. We think we should have taken origami lessons to do the same… One of the kids sinks a paper ship by throwing a rock. Little responds by shooting at him. As he’s about to hit her, he’s interrupted by an adult who calls him… Galadriel!

It was his older brother who prevented him from carrying out the massacre. Set in a bucolic landscape and with the always charming little music in the background, he gives her a crash course in philosophy on darkness and light and how to follow the right path. And he doesn’t seem 100% convinced of his demonstration. In the voiceover, the grown-up Galadriel essentially tells her that she had a happy childhood, bathed in light, that she believed time would be eternal.

Yes, Galadriel, we’ve all been there.

Until the dark enemy, Morgoth, cut the power, so to speak. The end of light, the end of abundance. Then came the time of resistance with the Elven Legion going to war. Farewell Valinor, far away land of the elves. And Hello Middle Earth, all on the animated map that was missing from the credits of the first episode of House of the Dragon, but that’s another topic. (Except we immediately meet the dragon and it’s still a bit confusing…)

And we find ourselves in the middle of a huge battle worthy of the Battle of the Bastards. More than a battle, it was a war that lasted for centuries. We see Galadriel, dressed in a pristine white tunic, in a completely desolate landscape, posing with an elven warrior’s helmet on top of a huge pile of other helmets, symbolizing countless deaths. (slightly spoils the mood, but the picture is beautiful)

If the war ends in Morgoth’s defeat, he has the orcs multiply in the four corners of Middle-earth and in the service of the wizard Sauron. This same Sauron who had the skin of Galadriel’s brother. (We’re still not in a happy mood here.)

This is how Joan of Arc, sorry Galadriel, becomes a warrior ready to maim Sauron. Except he couldn’t find his trace – maybe he should have taken Mike Horn – and as the years passed, Sauron fell into oblivion.

We are going to Forodhwaite, in the northern desert. Galadriel climbs a mountainside, wields a dagger, and swims straight through the ice. All with reservations. Eventually, he might take Mike Horn’s course. He is the leader of his group. One of his soldiers tries to convince him to turn back when no trace of the orc remains for centuries. It’s okay, he’s back on his way.

In the dark of night, in the heart of a hellish blizzard, a small group finds the lair they’ve been looking for. that the orcs after defeating Morgoth. The place is gloriously dark. Galadriel, who was undergoing training as a tracker, finds Sauron’s footprints there, on the same brother’s body. It was enough to galvanize him while everyone else is on their knees.

When they decide to spend the night in this icy lair, one of the elves comes face to face with a snow troll. The thing is 3 meters tall, blows everyone away, and roars like Chewbacca under autotuning. We have already seen a more candid encounter.

Galadriel flies at the giant Michelle Yeh-like beast in The Tiger and the Dragon and slashes it with five swings of her sword. In thanks, the others put down their swords and refused to follow him for the rest of the journey. pleasant

Return to the map and head to Rovanion, the Wildlands of Eastern Anduin. Two travelers, loaded like a mule, are returning from work. Something is running behind them. They look around, see nothing, and continue their journey. As soon as he’s gone, a little head pops out of the wheat, looking like a hobbit. But here they are called Pivelus. The entire horde emerges from the forest after hiding well as the danger passes.

It is the leak after two travelers have passed that they interpret as a bad omen. Wouldn’t they be a bit of drama queens around the edges? The concern is all the greater because they are looking for a certain Nori who does not answer the call.

He is with the kids, who are all trying to find the Hill Troll’s hideout. (What is that again?) They go there to pick blackberries. The girl noticed a footprint in the mud. As he shows it to Nori, he turns pale for a split second and hears the troops returning. This is a wolf track. We see the wolf in question at the beginning of the tape, but it looks more like the beast of Gevaudan. (we lost)

In a pretty clearing, under the chirping of birds, the elf Elrond writes a poem. A woman arrives to inform him that she will not be attending an upcoming council meeting reserved for elf lords. And he seems upset. Then he announces the arrival of his friend and he is there, everyone cheers.

We are in Lindon, the kingdom of the elves. It is Galadriel, the newly arrived friend, commander of the northern armies, returning without an army. Elrond wants to find his friend, to hear from him. No, no, Galadriel is still on the war footing. And ask Elrond to seek an audience with the High King for him.

At home in Pivelus, Nori dreams of a great adventure. But his friend brings him back to his senses and explains that the course of the world is played out between men, dwarves, elves, and other creatures, and that his existence must be confined to his own world. (In short, life should be seen in miniature)

In Lindon, the High King separates the warriors from his homeland and pleads with Galadriel to usher in a time of peace. (He dies) To reward them, he sends them to the gray havens to live forever in a blissful realm in the immortal lands of Valinor. As everyone cheers, Galadriel turns the face of someone who has just been sentenced to life imprisonment… and shoots Elrond a disapproving look. We know one who will pinch his ears…

In the evening, she announces to Elrond that she intends to renounce the High King’s honor to follow in Sauron’s footsteps. Slinger, Galadriel! Elrond tries to regain his senses, it’s like talking to a wall.

In the southern lands, in the land of men, the elf Arondir returns from his tour of the village of Tirharad, where none of the men seem happy about his arrival. Which doesn’t stop him from flirting with Bronwyn, who doesn’t seem insensitive to the charms of his pointed ears. The soldier, for wearing Arondir armor, is immediately reprimanded for his attitude towards the young woman by his brother Medhor, who reminds him that the bond between elves and men has always been death. (spoiler).

“How do I tell her I love her?” Asks for rounding

From the third they learn that the end of the war has been declared and all the outposts have been demobilized. Good news Apriori except for Arondir, who is thinking about his love affair. His captain arrives to teach him a lesson not to attach himself to people who were Morgoth’s allies and who are still inherently evil. They have tough teeth, elves!

At home, Bronwyn prepares balms and remedies with her son. Here comes Arondir, who clearly doesn’t want to let go. He came to make his announcement. Both have tremolos in their voices and words of love on their lips, but their son interrupts them. A man is present and asks Bronwyn.

He is a farmer who came to take care of the cow. Arondir approaches the animal and extracts a black, slimy substance from its nipple. So we’re not experts in Tolkien cows, but we tell ourselves that this milk isn’t normal… Arondir asks the farmer where his cow went to graze, suspecting an illness he already heard about at the hostel where he was staying. He took it badly at the beginning of the day. He decides to go there with Hordern and Bronwyn to accompany him.

Bronwyn’s son Theo and his friend sneak into the barn. They came to search rather than steal nest eggs. This is the base of the sword that bears the mark of Sauron. A friend runs away. And the Mark of Sauron seems to revive Theo in his hand. (Does Theo have magical powers? Does the object come to life as soon as someone is interested? We still don’t know).

an old antique? Excalibur? Or Sauron’s sword? Damn!

Galadriel is on a ship carrying her and other warriors honored by the High King to the Gray Havens. It has the head of a convict heading straight for the scaffold. If he had not gone to war, he could have been a tragic figure. For his part, Elrond regrets his friend going against his will, but the High King assures him that he made the right decision for Galadriel. so that he himself does not awaken the evil he is trying to eradicate. (yes…)

During their conversation, the High King asks Elrond if he knows about Lord Celebrimbor’s handiwork. “Among our greatest blacksmiths, of course!” – Elrond exclaims. It seems obvious, but we assume that the exchange will be used to revise our classics. The High King wants Elrond to work with him on a project of great importance. This is where Celebrimbor comes into play.

In Pievelus, Nori looks around Sadok, who senses impending danger, and searches his grimoire for answers to his concerns. According to him, the sky is strange, a bad sign.

Arondir and Bronwyn travel together to Hordern. He is going to make a statement again. And they stop again. Hordern is on fire.

On the parting seas where Galadriel sails, soldiers are stripped of their armor. Galadriel grabs the dagger she received from her brother and turns it as if it had been stabbed in the heart. The bird company welcomes them back. Elves have been stripped of their armor to look like angels. They begin to sing a song called Light. (Suddenly a mass is felt…)

The sky splits open and emits a bright light. They all seem hypnotized. (Rings of Power is going to be a series about a cult and we weren’t told?) Galadriel then recalls her brother’s words – but if a crash course in philosophy – when she was a child in Shadow and Light.

As the craft enters the light, Galadriel retreats. At the same time, on the other side, a meteorite splits the sky. One by one, the elves absorb the light. Galadriel must make a choice. light or dark. The meteorite crashed and Galadriel dived into the sea to escape the light, dagger in hand. And the vortex of light closes. Galadriel was left alone at sea.

In Lindon, the High King picks up a dead leaf that turns black in his hand. Nori goes to the meteorite crash site, very close to her home. In the middle of a huge burning crater, he finds a naked man. (The head in the Terminator scene?) We don’t know if it’s fear or blissful enthusiasm in Nori’s gaze.
