How I Met Your Mother: How Does It End?

Warning, spoilers. The following article shows the main points of How I Met Your Mother and its ending.

It’s going to be a legend… wait for it… Dard! Barney was not wrong! The famous sitcom of Craig Thomas and Carter Bays gave us 5 of the most iconic characters of the small screen. From Mr. Stinson’s iconic lines to Teddy’s endless conquests, pop star Robin’s past and the crazy adventures of Marshall and Lily, HIMYM – as it’s nicknamed – has made us laugh and sometimes even cry.

Nine seasons, 208 episodes… and an ending that was not unanimous! Some hated it, some liked it. However, one thing is welcome: the screenwriters filmed the “Revelation” scene with Ted’s children back in 2006. Thus, they were following the original vision whether they liked it or not.

Titled “The Last Forever”, episodes 23 and 24 of season 9 aired on March 31, 2014, thus serving as the show’s finale. Remember, in their previous episode, Robin and Barney finally got married after a very long weekend that has been going on. The final series So it begins during the post-wedding party, in the company of the whole gang, accompanied for the last time…

Teddy (Josh Radnor) is about to leave Chicago. Officially, for professional reasons, but above all to rebuild his life away from New York, which never offered him what he always expected: the mother of his children.

Teddy finally says goodbye to his friends, despite the insistence of Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), who sees him trying to flirt with a band musician who appears on stage during the party, and despite the support of Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel), who have already met They have a very positive opinion of him. Emotions run high, especially for Lily, who had trouble imagining her life and the future of the band without him. And his fears will be partially justified…

While he is at Farhampton station, Teddy sits on a bench next to an old lady, to whom he confides, as he always liked, his little stories. He wonders if he’s done something stupid after leaving the party when he catches a glimpse of the bass player. The old lady, sensing that she is on a mission, strongly advises him to go back to meet her.

Teddy still hesitates, then is about to finally give in when he sees that there she is, a little further up the platform, a yellow umbrella… the famous yellow umbrella… in her hand. So he goes to her and after exchanging a few words he realizes that they are made for each other, that this is him. Thunder in torrential rain…

In the end, Ted decides to stay in New York to take full advantage of… Tracy, that’s her name. Her name is Tracy McConnell (Christine Milliot). Marshall thinks he made a mistake by getting carried away too quickly (again) and Lily is sure he’s not wrong this time. But visions of the future quickly contradict him: Tracy tells Ted that she has to postpone their wedding because… she’s pregnant and wants him to fit in her dress!

Everything seems to be going well for them, which isn’t quite the case for Barney and Robin (Cobie Smulders). The latter has more and more success on television, travels around the world and has very little time for relationships. During the new leap, which is about 3 years after the marriage, the couple announces to their friends that they have decided to divorce. The gang is stunned.

However, Lily and Marshall have good news to announce: they are expecting their third child. Then they all promise to continue seeing each other as much as possible, especially during the most important moments of each other’s lives.

A few months later, when Lily and Marshall throw a party when they decide to leave their old apartment for good, everyone is reunited, but the promises are not completely fulfilled.

Robin was very absent, which results in an argument with Lily. They agree, without any problems, that their lives have changed, developed, that their friendship will no longer be expressed in the same way as in their youth, but that they will continue to live meaningful and beautiful lives for each other. on their side. Best friends forever. When the famous host goes back to her old flirty ways with Barney, she doesn’t bat an eye. But when he meets Ted and Tracy, he can’t help but feel the pain in his heart and the nostalgia of his first meeting with Ted bothers him…

Many years later, Ted and Robin meet by chance on the street when he is with his daughter, Penny. The meeting is short, superficial. The whole gang feels that Robin has changed a lot, that he has become cold, distant. And he just missed a very important moment in Barney’s life: he’s a father! The father of a little girl who had a one night stand. His daughter transforms him and Barney loses his bad habits. He no longer flirts with anything that moves. On the contrary, he protects the young girls he meets from predators, as he has for a long time!

Teddy finally asks his lover for her hand in marriage! When the day comes, Robin answers to everyone’s surprise. He admits that it was Tracy who convinced him to come to the wedding. Meetings are warm. Complaints are quickly forgotten. Marshall says he will join the Supreme Court after becoming a judge. blessing And the ceremony is going great.

Ted’s voiceover continues the story of “Mother” meeting her children. He talks about all the simple good times, all the gifts that life has given them, and then comes the moment when Tracy becomes gravely ill…and dies. And reminds them how he loved her, how he enjoyed every minute spent with him. How their mother was the greatest love of his life.

The children then appear on screen and point out to her that she ended up talking very little about Tracy throughout her story while Robin was always present. They are convinced that he is still in love with her and that if he told them all this, it was subconsciously asking for their permission to Aunt Robin, without betraying Tracy’s soul.

He initially denies this until he realizes they are right. And they think it’s really time, after six years, for him to move on, especially since they’re so attached to Robin.

The episode ends with images of Robin entering her apartment with her three dogs, who hears the doorbell ringing, who looks out the window to see who it might be at this hour, and who then discovers that it’s Teddy … the blue hunting horn. Famous. He smiled at her, happy. He smiled back at her. How did I finally meet your mother?
