The Disney + production “Tico and Teco: Defenders of the Law” won an Emmy for Best TV Show of the Year at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences ceremony held this Sunday evening (4/9) in Los Angeles.
Victory questions what differentiates a streaming movie from a TV or movie product. After all, the current Oscar winner, “Beat of the Heart,” was the Apple TV + launch in the US. The distinction is actually very simple: the producer decides whether to compete as an Emmy show or an Oscar movie.
Disney + participated in “Tico and Teco: Defenders of the Law” for the Emmy and took home the award, consecrating the hybrid comedy, which combines cartoons and real actors.
In the long run, the beloved squirrel duo Tico and Teco get back together after their popular animated series is canceled, this time to help the police in a case of missing Disney characters.
The biggest surprise of the preview is the revelation of who is the villain behind this mystery: Peter Pan, in the adult and pot-bellied version.
With an unexpected and creative use of metalanguage, the video also shows the participation of several other Disney characters, as well as mocking the evolution of animation in recent decades – including “Ugly Sonic”, rejected in his own film. Indeed, the production attracts attention for its mixture of all types of animation existing (from conventional to computerized, not forgetting the pasta for the game), which appear on the scene in front of real actors. Postmodern echoes of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988).
The vocal cast includes the voices of comedians John Mulaney (“Saturday Night Live”) and Andy Samberg (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) in the lead roles. Directed by Akiva Schaffer (“Popstar: No Stop, No Limits”), Samberg’s partner in the Lonely Island comedy company, responsible for production.
Watch the trailer in two versions: dubbed in Portuguese and in the original language (without subtitles).
