Tonight on TV: Louis de Funes’ last film, released 4 months before his death

Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: The Last Interpretation of Ludovic Crusoe by Louis de Funes.

Following Le Gendarme et les extraterrestrials in 1979, a sequel to the Gendarme de Saint-Tropez saga is planned using the same plot. Finally, screenwriter Jacques Wilfried is inspired by the beginnings of the feminization of the National Gendarmerie.

Thus, the sixth opus tells the story of the misadventures of Ludovic Crusoe and the famous Saint-Tropez brigade, which is responsible for the training and supervision of four female auxiliaries appointed by the hierarchy (played by novice actresses Catherine Serret, Sophie Michaud, Nicaise Jean-Louis and Babette Etienne). .

To save the headliner, whose health has remained fragile since his double heart attack in 1975, the shoot is planned entirely around him. Therefore, Louis de Funes only gets a few hours a day, and the technical crew manages to shoot scenes without him during his downtime.

But, suddenly, the condition of director Jean Giraud worsens. He died on July 20, 1982, leaving a devastated Louis de Funes. This marks the return of first assistant director Tony Aboyantzi to complete a feature film.

Le Gendarme et les Gandarmettes hits theaters on October 6. Despite dismal reviews, the film was a huge commercial success with 4.1 million admissions. It is the fourth box office success of 1982 two hours before ET, Extraterrestrial, Ace Ace and Jesus Christ. While the seventh episode of Gendarmes was planned, Louis de Funes died of another heart attack in January 1983, aged 68.
