It is already the second most expensive series in history after The Rings of Power

With The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Prime Video offers the most expensive series in history. The budget is more than $465 million – including $250 million for the rights buyback alone. You feel dizzy. But another program still on Prime Video’s side is starting to get people talking about it: Citadel.

Due in 2023, this ambitious spy thriller is the next project from Avengers: Endgame and The Gray Man directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The 7-episode series will feature multiple agents from around the world gathered for a common mission.

Starring Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico). The idea of Citadel is primarily to spin off the entire franchise by producing spin-offs based on various characters.

Initially, the budget was 160 million dollars. A wonderful sum. But the bill adds $75 million. Reason ? Stormy production and creative differences. While filming has been completed since December 2021, the first images seen by the team have created two clans, two opposing visions for the future of the series: the Russo brothers and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

Joe and Anthony Russo, who were heavily photographed by the gray man, were less present on the set of the series. Nevertheless, the platform decided to support their proposals. That’s why screenwriter Josh Appelbaum left the project, while director Brian Kirk – who signed on for 5 of the 7 episodes – and producer Sarah Bradshaw followed suit.

The series returned to filming between spring and summer under a new director: Thomas Siegel, a cinematographer who had already worked with the Russo brothers. Citadel doesn’t have an official release date yet.
