Three and a half years after launching from Roswell, New Mexico, the intergalactic journey is coming to an end. Indeed, The CW has decided not to renew the fantasy show for a 5th season. The fiction therefore ended after 52 episodes on September 5, 2022. But how exactly do intrigues end?
In this grand finale in Roswell, New Mexico, Liz’s abilities are compromised and Alex is still very ill. Ali accompanies Liz and Kyle to find a way to take down Clyde for good. With the help of science and aliens, they develop a serum that must destroy their enemy.
Our heroes believe that Clyde is ready to go through a portal that will take him to Oasis, the planet where Max, Isobel and Michael were born. An epic battle ensues, but Liz manages to inject Clyde with the liquid. Thanks to this gesture, he dies while crossing the gate… victory is finally won!
Alex has recovered and the path is clear for her to marry Michael. Before the ceremony, Sanders brings the latter something old as a lucky charm: an object that belonged to Nora. The old man assures him how proud he would be of him if he were here.
Spouses say “I do” to each other in front of all their loved ones who celebrate their happiness in a beautiful party. Maria approaches Dallas and hires Bonnie to work at Pony. Isobel and Kyle are closer than ever. For her part, Liz is ready to accept Max’s marriage proposal… except she discovers that he is the savior of the oasis.
Using the vision Tezka shared with Isobel before her death, Max realizes that only he can restore life to a dying planet. He explains the situation to Liz, who is desperate to hear that she has to leave. Then he meets Ali, who finds a way to give him back all his memory… and his smile. She also gives the young woman some love advice…
The next day, Lizzie meets Max and confirms that she will become his wife when he returns from the oasis. The alien and Dallas walk through the portal… Liz waits patiently for him to come to his senses.
Roswell, New Mexico showrunner Chris Hollier told Variety that the episode was not written as the last of the series. Initially, the portal melts after Max disappears, leaving Liz to speculate that her lover may never return. He adds that he intended to design Season 5 as the final season, with three major time jumps planned during this salvo… which will never see the light of day.
Finally, it’s important to note that the show ends with Shiri Appleby, Liz’s original interpreter in the first version of Roswell, playing Ali in Roswell, New Mexico. A nice wink to close the loop.
