British actor Sir Ben Kingsley will receive this year’s Golden Icon Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Zurich International Film Festival (ZFF).
Kingsley will be in Zurich to present his latest film, Dallyland, in which he plays the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. He will also talk about his career in the ZFF Masters Class.
Kingsley’s portrayal of Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s 1982 epic won him the Academy Award for Best Actor and received three other Academy Award nominations: insects (1991), sexy beast (2000) and house of sand and fog (2003). His variety and versatility as an actor have led him to roles as diverse as Yitzhak Stern, Oskar Schindler’s accountant. Schindler’s List (1993), the hacker villain Cosmo in the 1992 thriller sports shoesTangerine False Net Iron Man 3 (2013).
“Sir Ben Kingsley is an exceptional and highly versatile actor who not only fully immerses himself in his roles, but is also able to imbue his characters with a rare human depth,” said Christian Jungen, ZFF Artistic Director. “Through her nuanced performance, Kingsley has the ability to project her characters’ inner lives onto the outside world and portray complex and broken characters in a believable, believable way. Several Kingsley films, including gandhi s Schindler’s ListIt is one of the most important stages in the history of cinema, which in turn makes him one of the most famous actors in the world.
Kingsley will receive the Golden Icon award in person in Zurich on September 22 and will deliver his keynote address at the ZFF Masters on September 29.
“I am a storyteller, nothing more and nothing less. I am therefore delighted that Zurich has seen fit to pay homage to this simple and ancient trade of mine,” Kingsley said in a statement.
Kingsley also represents Mary Harron DallylandIn which he plays Salvador Dalí, who is busy preparing a big show in New York with his new assistant in 1973, while his turbulent marriage to his wife Gala (Barbara Sukova) is on the brink of collapse.
The 18th Zurich Film Festival will take place from September 22 to October 2.
