Visitor from the Future: Should You Have Seen the Web Series Before the Movie?

Now in theaters, The Visitor from the Future is revealed through a stellar film from Francois Descaquet, creator of the iconic 2009 web series.

It is undoubtedly one of the events of this new movie season. From September 7, we invite you to discover on the big screen a visitor from the future: a science fiction comedy that could not be more successful and directed by François Descaques. If that title and that name mean nothing to you, it means you missed out on a web series of the same name released in 2009 and which left its mark on a large generation of geeks (and not only).

Guest from the Future: From the Small Screen to the Big Screen

Until 2014, for 4 seasons and 57 episodes, fans followed the adventures of Rafi (Raphael Deskrac, the brother of the series creator), an ordinary young man suddenly chased by a man who claimed to be from the future and was ready to do anything to prevent him. The End of the World (Florent Dorin). Eight years later, this nugget, which was originally shot on a phone and which today has amassed nearly 50 million views, offers a new skin and invests in movie theaters. But then, do you absolutely have to know the web series to understand the movie?

The good answer is no! Tailored to many fans of the first hour, A Visitor from the Future is the same to neophytes who have never heard of Rafi, Mela, Mateo, or even the Temporal Brigade. “We started working on the script in 2014François Descac told us. What I struggled with at first was that I was too attached to the series, so the versions I wrote were very much in continuity, like I was doing season 5..”

I had to break away from him and came up with the idea of not making Rafe the center of the story. This is what freed me and allowed me to find the desired gateway with new characters: the duo Gilbert and Alice (played by Arnaud Ducré and Enya Baru, editor’s note).”

The two lead actors had never seen the web series before agreeing to star in the film. “I read the script and I loved the plot of the movie, I thought it was great“, Arnaud Ducré was delighted. And I emphasized with humor: “C”Probably not too bad, besides I read the movie before watching the first episode of the series! (laughs)

Therefore, the bet is on François Descacque, who here longs for the codes of the original work and brilliantly manages to offer an unpublished story, for a unique and already missed moment of cinema.

I am proud of the fact that I managed to make the film accessible to everyone. But it is especially important that we can go to the cinema to see something different: the more public support for these types of projects, the more there will be! We have to show that science fiction can work in France!
