As such, several productions were created to talk about the queen, or the British royal family during her reign. So, let’s go to a list of five productions that present the story of Elizabeth II, be they fiction or documentary, for film and TV.
Queen
“The Queen” is one of the most acclaimed works when it comes to portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. The film stars Helen Mirren in the lead role, which earned her the Best Actress Oscar in 2007. The film features a cut of the monarch’s story, delving into the period of Princess Diana’s death.
The royal house of Windsor
“The Royal House of Windsor” is a documentary series, which presents a portrait of the British monarchy over the past 100 years, since the beginning of the First World War. Therefore, much of what is presented takes place during the reign of Elizabeth II.
The crown
There is no way to talk about the royal family and Elizabeth II without including “The Crown”, a Netflix production that features different phases of Elizabeth II’s reign. The reality-based fiction shows different moments in the life of the queen and her family, going through scandals and milestones in British and global history.
The series has 4 seasons, a fifth has already been recorded and will be released in November this year, and the actors who will play Prince William and Kate Middleton in the sixth and final season of the series were recently revealed.

The documentary “Elizabeth: The Queen Behind the Crown” promises to go behind the scenes in the life of Queen Elizabeth II, in a way she would never have seen before.
Elizabeth and Philip: true love
Finally, the documentary “Elizabeth & Philip: Real Love” focuses on the relationship between the queen and Prince Philip, who died in April 2021. The film reflects on the union of the two, who celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2017.
