England mourns, and the world mourns, Queen Elizabeth, who died this Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, at her castle in Balmoral, Scotland. A shocking announcement that ended a reign of more than 70 years and finally closed the main page of our modern history.
Among the reactions, in addition to his relatives and international heads of state, screenwriter Peter Morgan was especially waiting. Her series The Crown, which follows the Queen’s journey through a decade of her reign for one season, has indeed hit the headlines, particularly for accusations of lies and fabrication by those around the royal family.
In an email sent by our colleagues DeadlineThe English screenwriter paid tribute to Elizabeth II and especially revealed that “The crown was intended as a love letter to the Queen, who at this time has nothing to add but silence and respect.”
In that email, Peter Morgan also reveals that filming on the sixth and final season of the Netflix series will be halted out of respect for the sovereign and his entourage.
Keep in mind that Season 5 of The Crown, which featured a casting change (Imelda Staunton replacing Claire Foy and Olivia Colman as Elizabeth II), is still slated to hit Netflix later this year. This new season will notably cover the divorce of Lady Diana and the future King Charles III, but also the tragic death of the ‘People’s Princess’.
The first four seasons of The Crown are now available exclusively on Netflix.
