The actor plays Cardona in “Santo”, which will debut on the 16th: “I found my demons”
After six months of immersion, living in Madrid in 2021, Bruno Gagliasso debut in Netflix this Friday, 16, with the “most visceral” character of his life. The actor is the protagonist Holythe first Spanish project between Brazil and Spain on the platform.
Created by Carlos Lopezwith direction of Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and Brazilian Vicente Amorim, the series tells the story of Santo, a mysterious drug dealer, never seen by anyone. According to Vicente, 75% of the shoot was shot in Madrid and 25% in Salvador.
The two policemen looking for the criminal, Cardona (Bruno Gagliasso) and Millán (Raul Arevalo), initially oppose, but begin to work together and understand each other to solve the case and stay alive.
“I’m sure this was the most visceral preparation of my life. Not only because of the character, but also because I stayed in another country and Vicente and I were the only Brazilians. I had to access very deep places, I had to access to my hell and find my demons to make Cardona “, says Bruno.
In an interview with Estadão, the actor and director reported that the most challenging part of the process was this solitary immersion in foreign lands. “It was difficult to find the balance to set the right tone for the characters amidst a certain loneliness. Although the team and all the producers were fantastic, we were in Spain, during the pandemic Bruno and I were the only Brazilians,” explains Vicente.

Initially, due to COVID-19, some casting preparations were carried out remotely. Both now and later in the recordings, Bruno explains that he needs to connect with his characters through identification and attributes Vicente’s support and all the work of the cast and production colleagues to the strength of the protagonist.
“I am looking for this truth that comes from within, this is my process and I had to find my demons to be Cardona. It was very important for me to know that I was safe to dive into the cliff hole, because I knew I would. a hand to get me out when needed. This hand is the director’s care, this united force, “he says.
Gagliasso explains that, in addition to the “demons”, he identifies himself with the strength, drive and determination of his character. According to Vicente, this intensity of the protagonists Cardona and Millán is due to the fact that the plot revolves much more around them than drug trafficking.
The director explains that this theme functions as “a starting point for understanding the personal hell of these characters”. “They are the two coin games. [personagem] Bruno is the man we want to be, taking us on this journey in which (perhaps) we identify with Raul as the man we, in fact, are, with contradictions. The spectacle is much more than that of drug trafficking. “

Vicente explains that the cultures of Salvador and Madrid are intertwined in the work: “Whoever looks at it, thinks it was recorded for 50% in Brazil and 50% in Spain, but no. The series takes place for 75% in Spain, but Brazil is so visually and socially powerful and the Brazilian characters are so strong, it makes that impression. “
“We were careful not to portray Salvador in a stereotypical way”, reiterates the director. On the novelty of being the first Spanish production that also takes place in Brazil, Bruno attributes this to a “cultural exchange”.
“What caught my attention was not the fact that it was international, but the way Brazil was portrayed. I went to do something international, but playing a Brazilian. The great thing is that I don’t speak Spanish or English., a story that also takes place in Brazil “, he celebrates.
