Disney + released the trailer for the second season of “Biggest and Best,” the sequel to “The Proud Family,” which ran for three seasons – and one movie – between 2001 and 2005 on the Disney Channel. The preview reveals new situations faced by Penny Proud, mostly funny, but there is also a dramatic moment evoked by a scene with the police, which refers to the suppression of the protests of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Created by Bruce W. Smith, the original attraction was one of the first animated series to revolve around an African American family. The protagonist is the teenager Penny Proud (voiced by Kyla Pratt), who turned 16 in the animated film, and her large and typical family, with an overprotective father (Tommy Davidson), a working mother (Paula Jai Parker), a grandmother who lives in her home (Jo Marie Payton), a pair of younger siblings (twins), a puppy and lots of eccentric friends.
In addition to returning with the same original voice actors, the streaming revival sees the participation of several famous stars, such as Keke Palmer (“Scream Queens”), Billy Porter (“Pose”), Zachary Quinto (“Star Trek”), Leslie Odom Jr. (“A Night in Miami”), Tiffany Haddish (“Girls Trip”), Lena Waithe (“Master of None”), Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Gabrielle Union (“LA’s Finest”), Debbie Allen ( “Grey’s Anatomy”), James Pickens Jr. (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Courtney B. Vance (“Lovecraft Country”), Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Jaden Smith (“After Earth”), Lamorne Morris (“New Girl “), Brenda Song (” Station 19 “)”), Eva Longoria (“Desperate Housewives”) and singers Lil Nas X, Normani, Lizzo and Chance the Rapper, among many others.
The premiere of the new episodes is scheduled for February 2023.
