Heading to Arte tonight, Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario” plunges Emily Blunt into the underworld of Mexican cartels. But how should we translate the title of this exciting film?
Tonight’s show on Arte, Sicario on the Denis Villeneuve stage Kate Macer, a young FBI agent played by Emily Blunt, faced with the extreme violence of drug cartels operating on the border between the United States and Mexico.
His already difficult job turns into a nightmare when he agrees to team up with Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro), whose unofficial mission is to kill the leader of the Juarez cartel against protocol.
Enhanced by Taylor Sheridan’s excellent script and Villeneuve’s breath-taking staging, this gripping story perfectly matches the title of the feature film. As the more informed or Spanish-speaking viewers already know, in Spanish the word “sicario” can actually be translated as “sicarius”, meaning “Hitman”.
A term that refers to the character played by Benicio del Toro, hired to eliminate his target without thinking about the rules.
