The pop star plays a police officer who, in the 1950s, has a secret romance with a museum curator
With the same hype but a little less drama, Harry Styles won the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday 11, debuting the tragic gay love story My cop less than a week after the much-discussed debut. in Don’t worry honeyat the Venice Film Festival.
My cop, in which Styles performs alongside Emma Corrin and David Dobson, features arguably the 28-year-old pop star’s most complete dramatic performance. He plays a closed 1950s police officer in Brighton, England, who falls in love with a museum curator (Dobson) but marries a local teacher (Corrin). It’s a tasteful period film, inspired by the life of the author of The Howards endEM Forster, split between the 1950s and four decades later, in which the three characters are played by Gina McKee, Linus Roache and Rupert Everett.
Crowds of fans followed Style’s every move to Toronto on a lightning-fast day that included a press conference with the film crew, a brief stop to receive a festival choir award for stars of My cop and the premiere itself, in which the usual post-film questions and answers were shortened.

My cop revolves around an unsolved love triangle that unfolds over 40 years thanks to the injustices of British laws against homosexuality and the repression of various characters. Styles said he regards it as the tragedy of lost time.
“The reason the story is so devastating is that ultimately, for me, the whole plot is about wasted time,” Styles said. “The one thing we can’t control is that we can’t recover. And it’s really important to spend time with the people you love.”
Directed by Michael Grandage and adapted from the novel by Bethan Roberts, My cop will be released in theaters on October 21 before airing November 4 on Amazon Prime Video. Though it didn’t get the same attention as Style’s other movie (Don’t worry honey), My cop was very warmly received in Toronto, drawing praise for Styles’ performance.
Styles wore a dark green double-breasted suit and light green pants, with a matching bag, for the debut. After the film, he thanked Dobson and Corrin for the friendship created off-set, which allowed them to build trust, particularly in the film’s more intimate scenes.
“Having a base of true friendship, outside of the characters, makes the job a lot easier,” the actor said. “And in the most intense scenes, there is a lot of confidence and confidence.”
