Paramount+’s Criminal Minds Revival finally has an official title. The thriller Criminal Minds: Evolution will be broadcast this fall exclusively on Paramount+, with productions available in France via Canal+. Zach Gilford, who we saw last year on Midnight Sermons, also made a returning arc in the first season.
Criminal Minds: Evolution will continue and evolve Community’s popular franchise by integrating a serialized format with a long-running narrative instead of the procedural format it was known for. The original CBS series Criminal Minds, which ran from 2005 to 2020, followed the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, the top profilers tracking down the worst serial killers.
In Criminal Minds: Evolution, an elite team of FBI profiles confronts their greatest threat yet, a serial killer who has used the pandemic to create a network of other serial killers. As the world opens up again and this web is activated, the team must hunt them down one by one. Original cast members include Joe Mantegna, AJ Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.
As for Zach Gilford, he will play Elias Voight, an operations analyst for a global cyber security firm with a dark side and obsession with death.
Behind the scenes, the series is sticking to the basics. Erica Messer (longtime showrunner and producer of Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Unity Without Borders) returns as showrunner, executive producer and writer.
