American horror film. Indian feature film. And the latest opus that Brad Pitt wears: this is the top three at the American box office from September 9 to 11.
to remember
A novelty at the American box office, of course. But there is nothing remarkable. While Top Gun: Maverick took control last week ahead of Bullet Train and the longer version of Spider-Man – No Way Home, it’s horror film Barbarian that takes the lead with an estimated $10 million. Which is little, even after the start of the pandemic.
But it’s enough to win Zach Kreger’s second feature (after 2009’s Miss Mars), the story of a woman who discovers her rental is already taken and decides to spend the night there anyway, at her own peril. Starring Georgina Campbell, Justin Long and Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Barbarian is way ahead of Indian film Brahmastra – Part 1: Shiva and the Bullet Train which is approaching the 100 million greenback milestone on American soil.
TOP GUN HOLDS UP, spider-man falls
Although the Cineworld group recently declared bankruptcy, the start of the school year is difficult for American cinemas. But he can still count on the hero of the year: Tom Cruise. After sixteen weeks in the US, Top Gun: Maverick is still flying in the top 10 and, a week after its return to the box office, is in fourth place.
With a domestic gross of more than $700 million, it’s now the fifth-biggest hit in US history, ahead of Black Panther but behind Avatar and its $760.5 million, which will no doubt give it a hard time.
Finally, let’s celebrate the huge fall of the long version of Spider-Man – No Way Home, even more impressive than Tobey Maguire when he loses his power in full flight in Sam Raimi’s signature second opus: his third for the weekend. After its release, the film, decorated with extra scenes, lost 3/4 of its receipts and fell to the tenth place. Although it has already earned $177 million worldwide, including $8 in the US.
