
The Disney + streaming service has released a promotional video for its new series, “American Born Chinese”, starring Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere At Once”). The video mixes behind-the-scenes footage with testimonials from the people involved and features images of the attraction, which must combine action, mythology and humor.
Based on the comic book “The American Chinese”, created by Gene Luen Yang, the attraction will tell the story of Jin Wang (Ben Wang, from “Good Egg”), an ordinary teenager trying to balance his school routine with the fantasy world. . After meeting a new student at school, Jin finds himself embroiled in a battle between Chinese mythological gods.
Yeoh plays the character of Guanyin, an entity revered by East Asian Buddhists, usually associated with compassion and mercy. The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan (also from “Everything, Everywhere at the Same Time”), Daniel Wu (“Into the Badlands”) and Chin Han (“Marco Polo”).
“American Born Chinese” was written by Charles Yu (“Westworld”) and Kelvin Yu (“Bob’s Burgers”), who will also be the attraction’s executive producer and showrunner.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) is one of the producers and also directs some episodes, along with Peng Zhang (fight coordinator in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) and actress Lucy Liu (“Elementary”)
