Black Panther 2: What Evolution for M’Baku in the Marvel Movie Sequel?

During D23, Winston Duke talked about the evolution of his character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Two months before the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Winston Duke, who portrays Jabari’s tribal chief, M’Baku, spoke about his character in an interview with the site. ComicBook.com.

After presenting a new excerpt of Ryan Coogler’s film on stage at D23, the actor said that after the events of Avengers: Endgame, M’Baku had to stop acting like a free spirit.

His role has changed. He survived Snape, he’s now a member of the tribal council, so he’s more prudent, he can’t do it alone anymore. He should be a part of society.

I think it’s a really cool thing for him. There will be a whole new dynamic. He is no longer the leader of the island. He learns to move on and see things through a much wider prism.

Winston Duke then elaborates that the Kingdom of Wakanda will be more prominent in this sequel.

A big evolution from the first feature film since M’Baku met T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) there to capture the leader of Wakanda. But Jabbar’s leader eventually linked up with the king to fight Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). In this second opus, the character is fully involved in decision-making.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he fights alongside Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Iron Heart (Dominic Thorne), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje to protect the kingdom. Prince of the Seas Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and those who want to seize the vibranium.

The feature film is set to hit our darkrooms on November 9th.
