After a long wait, the adaptation of “Making My Movie” is finally coming to the big screen. The production is responsible for giving life to the book by Paula Pimenta, released in 2008. Over the years, the literary series has become one of the most acclaimed by young Brazilian audiences and has conquered its place among children’s novels.
In the plot we follow the adventures of Fani, a young woman passionate about cinema. The story has a lot of romance, friendship, intrigue, and even exchanges. Apparently, all of this should be reflected in the film, as Paula Pimenta herself is involved in the script of the production. The author collaborates with screenwriter Bruna Horta and director Pedro Antônio.
On the big screen Bela Rodrigues gives life to Fani. The characters Leo (Xande Valois), Vanessa (Giovanna Chaves), Gabi (Alanys Santos), Natália (Júlia Svacinna), Rodrigo (Pedro David) and Priseno (Kiria Malheiros) mark the history of cinema.
Even though the film doesn’t have a release date yet, it should be out in 2022. And we can’t wait, right? With that, the Today chatted with the cast. Pedro David, Giulia Svaccina And Alany Santos talk a little about backstage and what we can expect from the adaptation. Come and find out!
Did you already know the books before joining the film? How was that first contact?
Giulia: I first came across the “Making My Movie” books when I was eight when I read the first book. I was in a lot of reading stage and loved the story of the book when I read it on the back cover in the bookstore, but I went to read all the books again last year when I auditioned for the film for the first time.
Pedro: I had heard of Paula Pimenta before, from friends who are fans of the books. I confess that, before the auditions, I hadn’t read “Making My Film” yet, but when I started auditioning for the film, I picked up the books and spent months studying the characters. I fell in love with the FMF universe, because it is a light and simple read that keeps you from start to finish.
Alany: Paula Pepper’s books marked a generation, right? I get messages every day from fans saying that the books are very important and telling them about their expectations for the film. I think it’s a very nice relationship. I hadn’t read the books before, but after my death I only read the first one. I haven’t read the others yet so as not to interfere with my acting.
What are the main challenges in getting these characters off the page?
Giulia: Natalia is a character that I have always loved, she brings a very comic essence and a very unique way and I believe that bringing all her energy and characteristics without being a bit stereotyped was my biggest challenge to bring her to life /
Pedro: Rodrigo was a character who did not give me much difficulty because we are very similar, both in personality and in physical. I think the biggest challenge was playing a character that a lot of people were waiting to see. Every book-to-movie adaptation has cast expectations, so that scared me a little. Fortunately, fans of the books loved the choice and I felt very welcomed.
Alany: For me, Gabi’s process was very natural, because she is a very loyal friend and I am too. It is a very great similarity. It’s all ahead, all technological. So I think it’s a side of me that I was able to come out naturally, you know? Gabi is very similar to me and, for sure, we would be friends.
What characteristics do you most identify with the characters?
Giulia: I think one of the characteristics of Natalia that I identify with most is her romantic and dreamy way, and she loves gossip! Obviously the physical characteristics are also similar and this has always been something that has caught my attention since I was little. When I read the first book, almost 10 years ago, I thought “wow, it would be great to do this ‘Natália’ in a movie! Have you ever thought about that?”
Pedro: The fact that Rodrigo is sensitive, writes poetry and advises his friends.
Alany: She is a very loyal friend. Like me, she is very intelligent and attentive to people.
What was the atmosphere like behind the scenes? Any funny moments while filming?
Giulia: The atmosphere was super light, relaxed and fun! All of us in the cast made a very quick connection and in a short time it was like we had known each other for years, plus of course a wonderful team that has been with us throughout the process. We had a lot of funny moments during the shooting, a lot of funny moments that will stay in memory forever.
Pedro: It was a very relaxed atmosphere! The entire cast, crew and everyone involved in the film had a great connection. A funny moment you can’t forget was Kiria burping in an interview we did for the film’s marketing lol. I hope he doesn’t kill me for saying that.
Alany: Every day was really good and fun. The atmosphere was very good and very friendly.
What was the best thing about participating in the project?
Giulia: I’ve always been a person who loved reading. Also, I’ve always dreamed of participating in a film that was a film adaptation of a book, so for me the best part of being part of this project was being able to experience a character from a book and, above all, to experience a comic character. of a series of books that marked the lives of many Brazilians.
Pedro: It was definitely the experience of returning to the set of filming after months of waiting due to the pandemic. The quarantine affected the art class a lot and going back to acting, meeting other artists and participating in such an important project was too surprising!
Alany: The best thing was growing up in this project, together with really nice people that I’m bringing into my life, who are my real friends.
We can see that the whole cast got along very well. Do you think this is reflected in the result of the film?
Giulia: I think this connection that we created was very important for the film, I don’t think it affected how the final result would be, but it was definitely a facilitator, since it was not necessary to create a relationship on the scene, it was already something natural. between us., we all became very good friends and I think that made the process a little easier for each one with their respective characters.
Pedro: No doubt! The atmosphere on the set was relaxed and everyone got along very well, so audiences would notice when they watch the characters on the big screen.
Alany: Of course! In the film, you can see our connection when we look at each other and listen to each other. It’s a film that takes a lot of time to develop. These friendships have brought a connection with the scene that is very beautiful to see, because our dynamic is very good. It’s a friendship film and we printed it very well, because friendships were born in the recordings.
To pique the curiosity of book-loving fans, has a lot changed in the storytelling with the screen adaptation?
Giulia: Not really! As Paula herself said, some adaptations have been made so that everything fits into the film, but the essence of the story and all of the characters remains! I’m sure you will love it !!
Pedro: Very few things have changed. These are just small details, because the film is very faithful to the book.
Alany: I was talking about it with Julia these days. Book and film are different things. While in the book everyone imagines their own scenario, in the cinema it is a real staging. I think a lot of people will like it, but we know we can’t please everyone. The film is beautiful, you can be sure of it. I loved being part of this project and I’m very proud of it.
