On August 29, the premiere of the new, already ninth season of the Russian comedy series took place on TNT “Cool guys” about the life of an ordinary Perm kid Kolyan and his friends Antokha and Vovan. The series has been running since 2010! Someone openly admits that he grew up on these heroes, someone hides it as a guilty pleasure, but I think there are almost no such people who passed by. By the way, did you know that the project is officially recognized as a cultural heritage of the Perm Territory? As you remember, according to the plot, the creators of the TV project “Real Boys” offer an ordinary kid who stole covers from sewer manholes and received a suspended sentence to take part in a reality show and allow the cameraman to film his life, work, leisure and friends – in exchange for freedom . Since then, the whole country has been following his adventures, watching him grow up, comparing himself with him, recognizing himself in him or disowning him. Kolyan is writing a book in the new season! Actual? Of course! However, the next, 10th season of the series, which will begin filming in 2023, will be the last, so perhaps some of us have already grown out of this story.

Also released a new – sixth – season of the American crime-drama television series “Better Call Saul”, which is a spin-off and prequel to the Vince Gilligan drama Breaking Bad – it is there that the name “Better Call Saul” is first encountered – as an advertising slogan for the future lawyer Saul Goodman’s firm. To be honest, I missed the series and urgently caught up with it from the very first season, and if you also just now found time for this project, I want to give advice: the first few episodes – viscous, drawn out and dangerously unhurried – you just need to endure, then the plot twists will capture you into its whirlpool, and it will be impossible to break away. Moreover, it will be interesting for an adult audience, and youth, and teenagers – black humor and cool detective stories are close to everyone! The protagonist is an outsider lawyer, a parasite, not always clean-handed and dangerously approaching the underworld. The public loves such characters, and the writers are happy to invent them. In general, call Saul – and then you can re-watch “Breaking Bad”, the plan for the cold autumn evenings is ready!

A bright French drama is released on September 15 “Brother and sister” Arnaud Desplechin is nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes this year, losing out to Östlund’s Triangle of Sorrow. The leading roles are the beloved, airy, tender, amazing Marion Cotillard and Melvil Poupo, who played brother and sister who have not communicated with each other for more than 20 years, but are trying to establish contact after the death of their parents. She is an actress, he is a poet and a teacher, and they are connected not by love, but by hatred, envy and childish resentment. A heavy drama that makes us remember that we are waging the most terrible wars in our own families, not being able and not wanting to understand, accept, forgive, rejoice at someone else’s success and put the feelings of another in the first place.

On September 9, the first episode of the youth drama aired on more.tv “Flock” with Agata Muceniece, Pavel Tabakov and Anastasia Krasovskaya in the lead roles. This is an adventure story about a group of young delinquents who are forced to hide from police persecution. The place of action is the mountains, each hero is full of contradictions, and together they have to turn into a real flock that will start a new life in the middle of the wild – and will reveal quite wild qualities in themselves as well. This is not a recreation series, this is a drama for those who like to think, delve into themselves and trust their heart more than their mind. By the way, the shooting took place in the Krasnodar Territory, Dagestan and North Ossetia, so excellent landscapes are a bonus to the twisted plot.

And I highly recommend visiting the amazing exhibition “Brother Ivan. Collections of Mikhail and Ivan Morozov” in the Pushkin Museum (open until October 30) – perhaps exhibitions of a comparable scale and with so many masterpieces we will not see in the near future. Recently, and not without incident, the collection of the Morozov brothers, which was exhibited in the Hermitage in 2019, returned to Moscow from the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris – and this is a real gift to the Moscow public. French art (Monet, Sisley, Renoir, van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso) and Russian art (Serov, Levitan, Vrubel, Mashkov) are widely represented here. Among the main “hits” – the recently restored “Red Vineyards” by van Gogh.
