Horror movie quiz: The Ring, The Grudge … Try it out of simple fear without trembling!

Japanese horror classics are back in Audition, Ring and Dark Water cinemas with restored 4K versions. In this regard, we offer a quiz on J-Horror and more specifically on the American remakes of these films.

Many Japanese horror films were made in the United States in the early 2000s. Some of these cult films have recently even had new versions: Le Cercle – Rings by F. Javier Gutiérrez released in 2017 and Grudge by Nicolas Pesce (2020).

Initially, The ring Is a novel by Koji Suzuki, a writer whose popularity in Japan is equal to that of Stephen King. The book, released in 1991, was a success, but the release of Hideo Nakata in 1998 boosted book sales, which sold 3 million copies. Snow The ring Is the first part of the trilogy that consists RasenPublished in 1995 and Loop (1998).

When it was released in Japan in December 1998, the Hideo Nakata seal in cinemas was accompanied by its original sequel, entitled Rasen and directed by Joji Ida. But dissatisfied with the quality of this second opus, Hideo Nakata and screenwriter Hiroshi Takahashi decided to shoot a new sequel to their film to make people forget about this film.

Released in 1999, Ring 2 is the official sequel to the 1998 film, so it is not the first adaptation of the second novel in the trilogy.

It was soon followed by American versions of The Grudge, directed by Takashi Shimizu, directed by the original (Ju-on), Dark Water, Pulse, and sequels to The Ring and Grudge.

Grudge continues to expand

Manufactured in 2000 Takashi Shimizu, Ju-on Begins with the first two films, subtitled The Curse, which tells the stories of the presence of evil in resting homes.

Two years later, the Japanese filmmaker shot Ju-On: The Grudge, the first film in the franchise. He pushes the cursor farther away than in the first opuses as the curse continues on the souls of the people killed in the revenge blow. Followed by 2 extensions.

Given the success of these films, Hollywood studios offered the filmmaker to make a remake of the US himself.

Offense The American version was shot entirely in Japan. For Sam Rhyme, who produced the film, it was out of the question to move the story to the United States.

But the studios have not decided to stop here as the reload will come out in 2020. OffenseDirected by Nicolas Pesche and again produced by Sam Reim. This time, the curse falls on Peter (John Cho), a real estate agent, and detectives Goodman (Damian Beecher) and Muldun (Andrea Raisborough).

That same year, Netflix aired the Japanese TV series Ju-On: The Origins, which, as its title suggests, goes back to the beginnings of the curse.
