Pinhead is back for the reboot of the horror classic “Hellraiser,” which won its first trailer this Tuesday.
The new “Hellraiser” will be directed by David Bruckner, who has a lot of experience in the genre. He directed “The Dark House” (2020), “The Ritual” (2017), for Netflix, two episodes of “Creepshow” (2019) for Shudder and segments of the horror anthologies “Southbound” (2015) and “V / H / S “(2012).
In this new story we will follow the journey of Riley (Odessa A’zion), defined by Bruckner as “a young woman struggling with addiction, who accidentally comes into contact with the box” which is part of the franchise’s history.
Watch the trailer for “Hellraiser”:
The original “Hellraiser” was written and directed by Clive Barker in 1987, as an adaptation of his own book “The Hellbound Heart”. In the plot, a box-shaped puzzle is actually a portal to a parallel infernal dimension, guarded by the cenobites: grotesque creatures for whom pleasure and pain make no difference. The leader of these beings, Pinhead, has become a horror movie icon.
The film had nine sequels between 1988 and 2018, which are drifting further and further away from the source material, as they deteriorate in quality with each release. Some of them weren’t even initially meant to be part of the “Hellraiser” universe, but they’ve earned the name and some adaptations to try and capitalize on the franchise’s success.
In addition to Odessa A’zion, the cast of the film also includes Jamie Clayton, who will play villain Pinhead, as well as Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic, Drew Starkey and Hiam Abbass.
This is not the only return of Cenobite planned. The universe created by Clive Barker still inspires a series in production by HBO, with David Gordon Green (“Halloween” and “Halloween Kills: The Terror Continues”) directing the pilot. Barker himself will be executive producer, however the project doesn’t seem to be moving forward.
In the US, the film will be released exclusively on the Hulu streaming platform and will arrive on October 7th. There is no confirmation of the launch in Brazil yet, but it’s worth noting that Hulu productions usually arrive here via Star +.
