This Wednesday (21), Netflix received the series “Dahmer: An American Cannibal”, starring Evan Peters as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Although not a documentary, the story of the series is based on a real case and one of the most famous in the world real crime, genre that talks about real crimes. Just like the series, rated under 18, the serial killer story is full of grotesque details.
Jeffrey Dahmer was born in the early 1960s in the US state of Wisconsin and is considered one of the most terrible and famous killers in the world. Known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, Dahmer killed 17 people over a span of 13 years.
Like most serial killers, he has already shown signs of a violent nature, as reports point out that he tortured animals and collected their bodies to study their anatomy. Dahmer’s father even taught the young man how to disinfect and preserve the body parts of animals, so that they last longer. This knowledge helped the serial killer practice his crimes in the future.
Jeffrey Dahmer even joined the army, but was deported after being accused of drugging and raping two colleagues. In addition, he was arrested two more times for sexual offenses, which included child abuse.
Jeffrey Dahmer’s first murder was committed when he was only 18 years old. The victim was backpacker Steven Hicks, who was suffocated and beaten with a sledgehammer, and later buried in the killer’s garden.
The killer’s modus operandi would differ in the following crimes, but Hicks already fits the profile of the victims: fugitives, drug dealers or travelers, who insert themselves as people who would hardly be considered missing by the authorities.
In subsequent crimes, the modus operandi became more complex and the serial killer began strangling victims and sexually abusing corpses. Just as the bodies began to rot, Dahmer separated the parts that were still in good condition for cooking and eating, hence the title cannibal. Furthermore, the killer recorded everything with photographs, which were exhibited in his apartment.
Jeffrey Dahmer’s crimes were only discovered in 1991, but police negligence first resulted in the death of another victim. One of the young men attracted to him managed to escape, and was found naked wandering the streets by the police. But authorities took the young man back to Dahmer’s home, who told officers they were dating.
Only a few months later, when a second victim managed to escape, Dahmer was discovered. The following year, the killer was tried and sentenced to 957 years in prison. However, two years after he was arrested, Jeffrey Dahmer was killed by other prisoners.
The story of the serial killer has already generated several productions, including books, films and series. In 2017, the film “Awakens of a Killer” was released, focusing on the youth of the murderer.
In addition to “Dahmer: An American Cannibal”, which arrived on Netflix this Wednesday (21), the stream is also previewing the documentary series “Conversation with a Serial Killer: The Milwaukee Cannibal”, which will arrive on May 7. October.
