
The science fiction classic film “Scanners: Your Mind Can Destroy” (1981) directed by David Cronenberg will become an HBO series.
Cronenberg himself is on board as an executive producer on the series, but the show will be written by William Bridges, who won an Emmy for co-writing the “Black Mirror” episode “USS Callister”. He will also be the showrunner of the attraction, which will be directed by another director: Yann Demange, of the films “71: Forgotten in Belfast” (2014) and “White Boy Rick” (2018) and the pilot of “Lovecraft Country” (2020 ). .
The original film tells the story of a small group of people with psychic, telepathic and telekinetic powers, known as “scanners”, who have a plan to take over the world. At the same time, a security company recruits its scanners to stop them.
The series will have the same premise, but will tell a different story, changing the point of view.
The attraction will follow two women who live on the fringes of society and are persecuted by ruthless agents with unimaginable powers. They will have to learn to work together to protect themselves.
