Olivier Abou (Maron) and Bruno Merle (Felicita), the two creators of Adrienne, a short-story writer of inspiration, called Nicolas Duvauchel, a regular on the small screen, because he had already starred in Bracuo, Man of Honor and Gone Forever. .
For this occasion, he answers to Nils Arestrup, an actor with a reputation second to none, who lends his features to Albert for the occasion. Camped in the younger version of the character is Axel Granberger, a young actor discovered in Season 2 of Maroon, Solange is played by Alizee Costes, who lands her first major role here.
The cast includes Bridget Catillon (The Taste of Others), Alice Bellaid (Hippocrates), Sami Bouajilla (Omar Killed Me) and Marie Denarno (HPI).
What is a piece of fiction in how we tell ourselves? This is the starting point of the story imagined by Olivier Abau and Bruno Merle in Les Papillons Noirs. When Adrienne, a writer who is losing inspiration, is hired to write an epic love story about a lonely old man, she is far from imagining that Albert’s confession is anything but ordinary.
Under the guise of a passionate romance, Solange and Albert embark on a murderous odyssey to satisfy their sexual urges. But the young woman’s more intimate desires call into question their vengeful crusade and undermine their relationship, which is as toxic as it is passionate.
With Les Papillons Noirs, Olivier Abou and Bruno Merle offer an ingenious thriller that manages to mix the detective genre with horror and intimate drama. With many comings and goings between the past and the present, the complex narrative makes us question the notion of reality, making this series highly addictive.
Axel Granberger and Alize Costes
Like Adrienne, the audience is quickly drawn into the circumstances of Albert’s life, never suspecting for a second that there is a much deeper drama going on. With hints sprinkled throughout the episodes, the two screenwriters create a world far more complex than it appears, giving the audience a key to the final twist that will surprise many.
Distribution is certainly not out of the question, with Nicolas Duvachel and Nils Arestrup forming a duo that works wonderfully. On the other hand, Axel Granberger, who plays young Albert, and Alize Costes, aka Solange, make a magnetic couple, both beautiful and devastating. They effortlessly manage to give humanity to these serial killers we are supposed to hate.
With its stylized violence, Les Papillons Noirs is an effective and addictive thriller that brilliantly reinvents the already seen and discussed genre of serial killers. Do not miss the series!
