The revival of “Criminal Minds”, titled “Criminal Minds: Evolution”, will show what serial killers did during the pandemic quarantine.

The reveal was made by showrunner Erica Messer, during a Paramount + event this Wednesday (9/21) to publicize the attraction.

“I couldn’t help but wonder: what are serial killers doing now? Are they using this time to study the classics?” He commented.

“When they called me about this new series, I said that I was present and that I already had a story. My head always goes to the worst possible scenario, so I imagined what would have happened if serial killers had used this pandemic period to communicate. between them, “he added.

In addition to a new title, the “evolution” for streaming will bring format changes to investigations.

Created by Jeff Davis, “Criminal Minds” was originally one of the most popular shows on the CBS network of this century and spawned two spin-offs. The attraction follows an elite FBI team, studying the biggest criminal minds, anticipating their next steps, before they strike again.

But if on TV the series followed the procedural format of one crime per chapter, the new version of Paramount + will be serialized, with the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit, its acronym in English) team working on a single case throughout the season. – which will have 10 episodes, instead of the traditional 22 of CBS.

Aside from that, Messer says there are no major changes. “We don’t have much more violence, I guess, but we definitely have some bad words … Some people might find it inappropriate, but I think it’s more than natural for an environment like this, and the pressure the characters go through all the time.”

The series will see the return of Joe Mantegna (David), AJ Cook (JJ), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope), Aisha Tyler (Tara), Adam Rodriguez (Luke) and Paget Brewster (Emily). But Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney have decided not to reprise their roles as Spencer and Matt respectively.

But, according to Messer, they will still be mentioned in the series. “They certainly won’t be forgotten. Their tables are still there, they still have things on them,” Messer joked. “We’re definitely integrating it. They haven’t disappeared.”

In addition to the “good guys”, the production will also feature Zach Gilford (“Midnight Mass”) as the main antagonist, who, as the season’s theme suggests, is supposed to be a bigger serial killer who used to receive the series villains earlier. .

“Criminal Minds: Evolution” will debut, with the first two episodes, on November 24 on Paramount +. The following chapters will be released weekly on Thursdays.
