The BBC has revealed the title and the first photos of the farewell special for actress Jodie Whittaker from the “Doctor Who” series. In a post on social media, the British network announced that the production will be called “The Power of the Doctor”.
For now there is no date for the premiere, but the special was called “Centenary Special” in allusion to the centenary of the BBC, founded on October 18, 1922 as a radio service in the United Kingdom.
Along with the Doctor and his current travel companions, Yas (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Lewis), the attraction will see the return of old characters.
Two supporting actors come from the 1980s: Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding), who has had adventures with the fourth and most famous Doctor Who (Tom Baker) and also the fifth (Peter Davison), and Ace (Sophie Aldred), traveling companion of the seventh and final Doctor Who (Sylvester McCoy) of the original attraction.
In addition to them, Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) also returns, introduced in the 7th season of the reboot (airing in 2012) when Matt Smith was the Doctor, and two new additions from the recent 13th season: Vinder (Jacob Anderson) and the new regeneration. of the Master, performed by Sacha Dhawan.
After this special, “Doctor Who” will have a new lead, Ncuti Gatwa (Eric of “Sex Education”), and a new showrunner, Russell T. Davis, in a return to the franchise after being responsible for the 2005 reboot – which he saved the old attraction originally canceled in 1989.
The narrative gimmick that justifies the interpreter changes is simple: every time Doctor Who is fatally wounded, he transforms into another person, acquiring not only a new appearance, but also a new personality, while retaining all your memory. . The trick was how the producers found out about continuing the series when William Hartnell (1908-1975), the first Doctor Who, decided to leave the role midway through the original fourth season (which aired in 1966).
With the transition, the Doctor’s current traveling companions must also leave the series. Together with Gawa, the series will see Yasmin Finney (Elle Argent from “Heartstopper”), chosen to play the first transsexual partner in the adventures of the protagonist. And Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) will play a new villain.
Finally, two former stars of the series will make cameos in the new episodes as part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of “Doctor Who”: David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who played the 10th Doctor and his partner.
The fourteenth season of “Doctor Who” will air in 2023.
