Netflix: One of the best movies of the 2000s is leaving the platform

You only have seven days left to (re)see Gladiator, Ridley Scott’s masterpiece starring Russell Crowe as a Roman general turned gladiator.

Ask someone to list the best movies of the 2000s: most likely Gladiator will be there! Ridley Scott’s film, a modern reinterpretation of the famous Hollywood butterflies, tells the story of Maximus Decimus (Russell Crowe), a general of the Roman Empire, who is deposed by the new emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and reduced to the rank of a mere gladiator.

A story of revenge but also of honor, Gladiator was a success upon its release, in particular with almost five million screenings in French cinemas. Also critically acclaimed, the film won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Many people are still wondering why Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix were not on the Oscars list that year!

Although the film starred actors who were considered rising stars at the time, Gladiator also starred two legendary actors who died during filming: Richard Harris as “Emperor Marcus Aurelius” and Oliver Reed. Mona Proximo.

Don’t hesitate to (re)watch this landmark piece of cinematic history as Gladiator leaves the Netflix catalog on September 29th!
