‘A knock at the door’: release date, trailer, cast, synopsis and more of Shyamalan’s new film

Movie lovers (in general and horror movies in particular) are celebrating, or so we should feel before each new release by the director of ‘The Sixth Sense’ (1999) and, therefore, we review everything we know about ‘There is a knock on the door’, the new film by M. Night Shyamalan.

‘A knock at the door’ has a release date of February 3, 2023 exclusively in theaters, will it sneak into our list of the best horror movies in cinema history?

‘A knock at the door’: Synopsis

The script, signed by signed by Steve Desmond, Michael Sherman and Shyamalan himself, adapts the 2018 novel ‘The Cabin at the End of the World’ by Paul Tremblay.

The film tells us how, during a vacation in a cabin far from everything, a girl and her parents become hostages of four strangers who force the family to make an impossible decision: one of them must be sacrificed to prevent the apocalypse. We’ll see if it includes some of the best ‘plot twists’ from M. Night Shyamalan movies.

‘A knock at the door’: Team

Universal Pictures presents this M. Night Shyamalan film, a Blinding Edge Pictures production in association with FilmNation Features and Wishmore Entertainment. Shyamalan is responsible for some of the best films of the 21st century with gems such as ‘El protegido’ (2000), ‘Señales’ (2002), ‘El bosque’ (2004) and ‘La joven del agua’ (2006), in addition to the most recent ‘The visit’ (2015), ‘Multiple’ (2016) and ‘Glass’ (2019).

Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, originally considered taking on the film’s production alone, but the idea was so compelling that the filmmaker was inspired. “One day, in a meeting, Night said: Well, what if I rewrite this and direct it myself?” Says producer Ashwin Rajan, president of production for Blinding Edge. “I felt a strong connection to the material and to a version of it that gave it depth, albeit with a subdued tone.”

‘There’s a knock’ has also been produced by M. Night Shyamalan along with Marc Bienstock (‘Multiple’, ‘Glass’) and Ashwin Rajan (‘Servant’, ‘Glass’). Executive produced by Steven Schneider, Christos V. Konstantakopoulos, and Ashley Fox.

‘A Knock on the Door’ stars Dave Bautista (‘Dune’, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ saga), Tony Award and Emmy nominee Jonathan Groff (‘Hamilton’, ‘Mindhunter’), Ben Aldridge ( ‘Pennyworth’, ‘Fleabag’), BAFTA nominee Nikki Amuka-Bird (‘Persuasion’, ‘Time)’, Kristen Cui in her acting debut, Abby Quinn (‘Little Women’, ‘Landline’) and Rupert Grint (‘Servant’, the Harry Potter saga).
