“Mufasa”: Director reveals details on “The Lion King” prequel.

Barry Jenkins, the director of “Mufasa”, the recently announced prequel to “The Lion King”, gave more details about the film in an interview, including the fact that we will see some familiar faces again and have musical numbers.

These details were revealed by Jenkins in an interview with Weekly entertainmentduring the Disney event, D23 Expo 2022. “I thought I knew all about Mufasa,” recalled Jenkins when he received the script for “Mufasa: The Lion King”.

“Mufasa is the king, the greatest king of the Kingdom Lands, and you think he has become that way only for what he is. And I thought the studio and Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the script, did a great job of exploring how people get great, “said the director.

“I think you’ll see a lot of familiar faces,” Jenkins says of the film. “It’s a prequel, but again it’s a prelude, in the sense that they are all the same characters, but we tell you how they became who they are. So we are literally taking a step back. Let’s go back in time with many of these characters. We are also in the present, but we will also come back to tell who those characters were “.

Some of these “familiar faces” have already been revealed. As revealed during the presentation at the D23 Expo event, “Mufasa” will tell the story of the title character through flashbacks, told by the wise monkey Rafiki and the famous duo Timon and Pumbaa. The trio will be voiced by John Kani, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen respectively. Aaron Pierre will voice the young Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice Taka, Scar’s real name.

In addition to announcing that we will see many familiar faces, Jenkins wanted to point out that the film will contain musical numbers. “Please expect musical numbers. Really wonderful musical numbers I would say.

“Mufasa” will be released in 2024 and will focus on the events that took place before 2019 “The Lion King”, a 1994 animated film that chronicles the adventures of young lion cub Simba. After being tricked into believing he caused the death of his father, King Mufasa, Simba runs away from home, returning years later to take his place on the throne after his uncle, Scar, takes over.

The new film will be released in theaters on July 5, 2024.
