Ahead of Avatar: The Way of the Water hitting theaters on December 14, Disney released a remastered version of James Cameron’s first opus this Wednesday. But starting Wednesday, several moviegoers are thinking of seeing the second opus in theaters…

Avatar 2: The Way of the Water hits theaters on December 14th. In order to keep the public waiting and to revive the memory of the audience, James Cameron wanted the first opus to be performed in dark rooms. The film, which aired from Wednesday, is a success as it tops the French box office with 39,866 admissions from 344 prints on its opening day.

Released in 2009, Avatar revolutionized the 7th art and still holds the box office record with $2.847 billion internationally. Therefore, the release of a feature film is an event.

But some viewers clearly didn’t realize that it’s the first film that’s currently in theaters, as these screenings attest. The slogan “Back to the cinema” presented on the recovery poster was probably not enough (and seems to confuse the public more).

An agent at the Megarama multiplex in Villeneuve-la-Garenne confirms at the AlloCiné microphone that the vast majority of viewers are thinking of coming to see Waterway. When ticket agents tell them it’s the first movie, most moviegoers decide to go to another movie.

Note, however, that the version of the 2009 film currently on offer is an unreleased remastered version, enhanced with exceptional 4K HDR imaging, as well as a wide selection of 2D and 3D formats. Disney added some previously unseen scenes from Avatar: The Waterway to the end credits. Something waiting for the most impatient moviegoers…

to the microphone The Hollywood ReporterJames Cameron also advises young viewers who haven’t seen the film in theaters to go (re)discover it on the big screen: “Although they think they saw Avatar, they really didn’t like it. These Avatars are hybrids created by genetically interbreeding human DNA with Na’vi, the DNA of the natives of Pandora.

In his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is assigned a mission to infiltrate the ship, which has become too important an obstacle to the exploitation of the precious ore. But everything changes when Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), a very beautiful sailor, saves Jake’s life…

The Waterway takes place ten years after the events of the first part. Jake and Neytiri became parents. Their idyllic life is threatened when the dangerous NGO Resource Development Administration returns to Pandora. Forced to leave their natural habitat, Jake and his family travel to the reefs where they believe they can find refuge. But they encounter a clan, the Metkaina, with their customs…
