Following the structure of a good soap opera, the second phase of the series will work on all the relationships that developed in the first phase. So, from now on, all that bullshit that was planted during the first few episodes will sprout, especially the one related to the succession of King Viserys (Paddy Considine). As you might expect, the rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent will come to a head and things will go up in flames. Literally, since we are talking about the dragon family.
But all of this comes with a cast change. While some characters retain the same actors from the previous stage, such as Viserys himself and the devilish Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), others will undergo complete transformations. So, see how the characters of The house of the dragon after the time jump.
Rhaenyra Targaryen

The most obvious change in this new phase is the change of the protagonist. In the first five episodes, Rhaenyra was played by Australian Milly Alcock, who played a princess who was still learning to play the game of throne. But, after a decade, she is played by Emma D’Arcy and this also implies a transformation in her behavior.
Much more versed in palace intrigue, he follows with his motto to do whatever he wants as he fights with nails, teeth and dragon’s breath to defend his rightful right as heir to the Iron Throne. And most importantly, he is far from being a naive good girl.
Alicent Hightower

King Viserys’ second wife was played by young Emily Carey in the first phase. And, even more so than Rhaenyra herself, the daughter of the Hand of the King arrived very naïve at the Red Keep and had to learn the hard way to survive the lies and bullshit that accompany the crown and the Iron Throne.
But, after 10 years, we will see an Agent much more aware of its role and all that is at stake. Played by actress Olivia Cooke, we will see a queen who will fight for her son Aegon II’s traditional right to conquer the Seven Kingdoms, even if it means clashing with her old friend and starting a civil war.
Viserys Targaryen

As mentioned, we will not have an actor change in the case of King Viserys. But it will be very different at the start of this new phase. After all, he wasn’t a young man at the beginning of the series, and ten years later, we can say that things are starting to fall apart, literally.
In addition to being aged and tired, his illness continues to advance to the point that he starts the new episode without an arm. With this, the expectation of his death already begins to hover around the Small Council and the squabbles over the succession intensify.
Aegon Targaryen

You can barely remember Aegon in the first phase of The house of the dragon. Also because he was born in the middle of the season and only appeared as a small child without much prominence. However, he will be fundamental not only in the second phase, but for the rest of the season.
So much so that you can expect to see a new cast change soon. Starting with episode 6, he will be played by Ty Tennant, son of Doctor Who actor David Tennant. And, apparently, he hasn’t inherited his father’s charisma and will come to the show with that hateful Joffrey Baratheon look. In other words, be prepared to hate him.
Later, when Aegon grows up and starts to really fight for the throne with Rhaenyra, he will be played by actor Tom Glynn-Carney, who hasn’t had his HBO-released Targaryen look yet.
Laenor Velaryon

Rhaenyra’s wedding was the big twist of Episode 5. Not just because of the way the ceremony ended, but because of the simple fact that she was forced to marry a cousin, Laenor Velaryon, son of the Sea Serpent. .
At the beginning of the series, he sometimes appears only as a child, but the biggest highlight is already in his teenage phase, where he plays Theo Nate. And this arranged, escapade-filled marriage will remain in the new phase and the dragon tamer will be played by John Macmillan, who will continue to have fun in his own way.
Laena Velaryon

Do you remember little Laena? She begins the series with her father’s offer to marry Viserys even though she is only a child. Thanks to the gods, common sense crossed Viserys’s mind, but not Daemon’s. After meeting the Sea Serpent’s daughter as a teenager and played by Savannah Steyn, Matt Smith’s character has already gone too far and secured another dragon on her side.
In this second phase, she will continue alongside Daemon and will be played by Nanna Blondell. And, like everyone who messes with the devilish Targaryen, things should heat up for her.
The house of the dragon is in the HBO catalog Maxwith new episodes coming out every Sunday.
