Carbonia Film Festival – The Tenth Edition is underway, from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 November

Films in competition
The first title in the competition is Orpheusthe surprising debut feature of Virgilio Villoresi inspired by Comic poetry By Dino Buzzati. The films will compete for “CFF10 Public Competition Award” worth 1,500 euros, assigned by the audience in the room, and for “UCCA Carbonia Young Cinema Award”.

Special Event: Francesco Bianconi for CFF
The festival will close on Sunday 9 November with a special event featuring the protagonist Francesco Bianconisinger-songwriter, writer and voice of Baustelleaccompanied on the piano by Alberto Bazzoli. One of the most refined composers in the Italian musical scene, Francesco Bianconi will bring one to Carbonia exclusive performance Between the music and the words designed specifically for the CFF, in conversation with the artistic director of the festival Francesco Giai through, avoiding the tradition of the CFF of combining cinema and other forms of artistic expression.

The Iranian director will be the international guest of Carbonia Film Festival 2025 Firouzeh Khosrovanian author with an original path and deeply linked to the dimensions of personal experience, who will meet the public in different moments of dialogue and discussion. His presence is part of the festival’s vocation to build, through international cinema and its protagonists, an active comparison with our time, opening reflections on the themes of identity, memory and exile. Two emblematic works from his filmography will be presented: Radiography of a family, The documentary that won the IDFA 2020, in which the director delicately and rigorously explores the history of his family as a reflection of the ideological and religious fractures that cross Iran, and The birds of Mount Qafco-directed with Morteza Ahmadvand and distributed by Zalab. Presented in competition at the Giornate Degli Autori 2025, this latest film tells about escape and the feeling of distance through a visual language suspended between reality and imagination, evoking an interior geography marked by absence and transformation.

City of Carbonia Award to Salvatore Mereu
Another new feature for 2025 is the City of Carbonia Award. Established for the first time as part of this edition, the award is assigned by the festival, together with the municipal administration, to a personality in the cinema whose artistic and personal path has been able to combine awareness, vision and a deep connection with reality, giving the public a vision capable of portraying the complexity of the present with depth and clarity. Many cinema protagonists are expected at the Carbonia Film Festival to meet the public and show their films.
