The intertwined fates of four women from different origins and worlds in a small village in eastern France in 1914, when the fighting is raging and the German zone is only a few kilometers away.
Marguerite de Lancastle, Suzanne Faure, Caroline Dewitt and Mother Agnes find themselves plunged into the heart of the horrors of war and gradually see that their balance, their truth and their secrets are threatened.
Marguerite is a mysterious and feisty Parisian prostitute who is hired by a village brothel for a very specific purpose; Caroline, the wife of Victor Dewitt, a car factory owner who went to the front, finds herself at the helm of the family business, a colossal and unprecedented challenge for a woman at the turn of the century; Agnes, the mother superior of the convent of Saint-Pauline, which has been requisitioned and turned into a military hospital, suffers more and questions her life choices; And Susan, a young feminist nurse on the run after an abortion gone wrong, tries to escape her pursuers.
No doubt nothing will be the same soon…

According to Télé 7 Jours:
“From the very beginning we find the touch of Alexandre Laurent (‘Le Bazaar de la Charité’) in this big-budget melodrama: dazzling historical reconstruction, imagery – very cinematic – purity of characters, refined treatment. 4/5
According to Télé Loisirs:
“Sometimes in an excessive dose, the romance often takes precedence over the big story. We are not complaining, because the entertainment that the series offers does not detract from the main point: women played a major role in the First World War, and the time has come. Fiction to the subject! (…) big sister A beautiful sight!” 4/5
According to TV Star:
“Exciting historical mini-series” 4/5
According to The Point:
“An effective and rhythmic tune that thrives on twists, sometimes clever, sometimes predictable, sprinkled with a few small scriptural bravadoes.” 3.5/5
According to TV Cable Sat:
Thanks to the prestigious cast, luxurious costumes and spectacular sequences, TF1 offers an expensive soap, completely unbelievable and overplayed, but apparently entertaining. 3/5
According to Le Figaro:
“A great show is guaranteed even if the script, like Susan’s war operation, is not laced.” 3/5
According to Telerama:
“This historical melody, sunk beneath the violins, connects scenes intended to be edifying, but is so sluggish and loaded with pathos that it is almost laughed at.” 0.5/5
