Dr. Stone for Parents: 3 Minutes to Learn Everything About This Anime You Love Science

An atypical manga born from the collaboration of two mangaka (Boichi and Richiro Inagaki), Dr. Stone is a shonen whose fights are won not only with the power of the fists, but mostly with the power of the mind.

Both funny and highly intelligent with deep reflections on humanity and civilization, this is a “highly moving” series that has the ability to entertain and educate us at the same time. Without being heavy, anime takes us back to the beginnings of technology, restoration and medicine, with scientific explanations accessible to all ages.

An atypical and effective way of approaching the subject of human evolution and thinking about our current living conditions. And after two seasons and a very popular OVA with the community, a new wave of episodes will arrive in 2023.

What is it about?

When he is about to declare his love for the chosen one of his heart, Taiju, a high school student like the others and all of humanity, is transformed into a statue. A few seconds before the tragedy, a phenomenon appeared in the sky, which was probably caused by a strange green and brilliant light.

Only 3,700 years later, Taiju manages to escape from his stone prison thanks to his best friend and scientific genius, Senku. But the world is no longer as they knew it: nature has regained its rights and the environment has become hostile.

Together, the two boys try to combine the special scientific skills of one and the physical abilities of the other to save 7 billion still fossilized humans and discover the origin of this catastrophe.

Anecdotes that will amaze your teenager!

  • Before talking about science in Dr. Stone, screenwriter Richiro Inagaki gave life to a famous manga of another genre: Eyeshield 21, which focuses on American football.
  • All scientific practices used in the series are effective and achievable in real life (although be careful to reproduce them only in the presence of an adult if the person is a minor)
  • The mangaka came up with the idea for the Senku character when he saw a magazine cover featuring a lot of shonen characters. He says he wanted to create a more “normal” hero without superpowers, but just as cool.
